Hi all. This is my first time posting due to a problem with my Teepee.
Bought the car second hand in France from a Peugeot dealer. It has around 120,000km on the clock.
Last week, on our way to holiday, it died on the highway at 120kph. Death rattle and coasted to the hard shoulder. It had been running perfectly smoothly, no noises, or problems with smooth running or starting. It has full Peugeot service history.
After being towed off, the Peugeot breakdown guy says the timing has gone and the engine is dead - all valves banged etc. We are waiting for full diagnostic. The timing belt was intact and not due to be replaced yet.
Basically I am looking for advice, is this a frequent occurrence? We only had the car for about a year and it has been fine except for a problem with the blue tank gauge, which was repaired free by Peugeot because it was still under 6months purchase warranty. Has anyone similar experiences? The garage is super expensive on labour costs, but is about 600km from our house. I am not sure that I trust them to give me the best choice of options and I want to be well informed before I get into discussions with them.
Thanks in advance for any advice out there

Re: Partner Teepee timing gone
Hi, and
to the Forum (even if it is due to such bad news). It is not impossible for the timing belt to have jumped a tooth or two, causing such damage, but it would be very unusual. If a tensioner has failed (or has been improperly fitted) then the belt would become loose, allowing it to jump. I had something similar happen on my C5 (at low speed), which broke/bent several rocker arms.

Post up your VIN so I can check the actual recommended interval for this vehicle specifically (please post your VIN in full without spaces - it will be automatically masked from public view after submitting your post & will only be visible to staff). As for warranty, that's a difficult one with only a 6 month warranty, now being a year on.lizn wrote: 27 Feb 2023, 11:32 Hi all. This is my first time posting due to a problem with my Teepee.

I suppose it will be down to the servicing history of the vehicle, how near to the mileage for replacement or or age of the vehicle as to what if anything you may get from Peugeot. Once I have the VIN I can see what the actual recommendations are. However, the damage is done now and it will likely be a new engine due to knock on damage of the Cylinders, pistons, cam as well as the valves that you've already been told are all bent up.
PS, You duplicated the topic, so I have deleted the other one

Re: Partner Teepee timing gone
Is it a 1.5 Blue HDi? Google timing chain failure.... If it's a 1.6 Blue HDi, then early failure of the belt is not unknown either. In both cases, it should be possible to resurrect it without needing to take the head off, but it might need new cam shafts.

Hi Richard,
It must be 1.6 because it is belt, not chain. Good news if I dont need to take the head off. Im keeping my fingers crossed

Re: Partner Teepee timing gone
Ok, so you have an 8 valve DV6FD engine.
There's already a thread that may provide some help:

Re: Partner Teepee timing gone
The 1.5 engine has gone back to a 16V head with a main belt drive, and then small chain driving the second cam - and this seems to be a weak point causing failure. At least if yours is an 8V head, the costs are less - only 8 rockers and 1 cam shaft!
Here's a vid, in this case the head was taken off, but all the valves appeared intact, one had lost its collets however. Carnage in the rocker box at around 19 minutes in!!

Re: Partner Teepee timing gone
Three versions are 16V, one is 8V. The 8V one is for Ford use and the other 3 PSA vehicles as far as I can see.
| DV5 RE | 75 PS (55 kW; 74 hp) | Turbo-Diesel 16-valve |
| DV5 RD | 102 PS (75 kW; 101 hp) | Turbo-Diesel 16-valve |
| DV5 | 120 PS (88 kW; 118 hp) | Turbo-Diesel 8-valve |
| DV5 RC | 130 PS (96 kW; 128 hp) | Turbo-Diesel 16-valve |
