407, cut out and threw codes, strange one.

Unread post by moizeau »

Just thought I'd share this experience yesterday.
Parked up for 4 hours at a job, went to leave, started fine as normal. After 50m there is a short but sharp hill then a sharp right. Travelled another 200m and the engine cut out. The fuel light had come on 5 miles previous to this.
Pulled over, swore a bit.
It would turn over fine but not catch. Thought I'd do a BSI reset just to see as I don't carry the Diag stuff round with me. Opened the bonnet and drivers window and then waited. After about a minute, for some unknown reason, I decided to undo the fuel filler cap. A large rush of air. Blimey I thought.
Sod the waiting for the reset, had ago at starting it, 3 or 4 rotations and it fired up and I drove home.

Plugged it in today to see if there was anything shown.......and yes.
Inj ECU P0339 Loss of sync

ABS U1208 Comms issue with eng ECU Perm
P0562 Undervoltage Int

G/Box U2000 Fault in sync with BSI Int

Pwr Steering U1208 Comms issue Int
P0562 Undervoltage Int

Under inflation U1208 Eng speed
U2006 Eng speed
U2005 Vehicle speed

Started the car and the sync was fine, noted all the faults then cleared them, went round the block, rechecked.......No problems.

So, I'm wondering if the steep hill caused air to be sucked into the fuel line cutting the engine. Why this would have caused the air rush when removing the filler cap I've no idea, never heard anything before at fill ups. I'm hoping the cutting out of the engine due to fuel starvation confused the computer and it threw a load of codes. I did change the crank sensor a while ago for a branded replacement due to oil ingress in the plug....due to a seeping crank seal. I sorted all this a while ago when I did the belts.

I will leave the Diag stuff in the car for a bit to be on the safe side.

Just an odd one that I've never come across before that I thought I would share.

Notice the BX is still top the list but sadly gone

I've heard of this a few times when fuel is low - probably not good to let it get that low in those conditions as it can also allow all the crap in the tank to circulate...
