Afternoon all, I've got to do the wheel bearing on my Dispatch. A couple of years ago I did the other side and the ABS sensor ended up getting wrecked trying to remove it. Was I unlucky or is it the norm and worth ordering the sensor as a matter of course the same time as the bearing?
Cheers

Pete.
Just did the rear wheel bearing hub on C5 it came off with careful levering and lots of silicon spray. I was pleasantly surprised but delighted. If remember they don't cost much and if the worst happens you are prepared.

If you were to buy a spare sensor it is almost guaranteed you will not need it, but if you don't have one you can be sure it will need to be replaced (not me being cynical; it seems to be a fact of life where Citroens are concerned!

Re: ABS sensor, change with wheel bearing?
Thanks chaps, it's a front hub so for 20 euros may as well order it I think. Your completely right James, will probably sit on the shelf. The postage is a tenner so that would make 30 if buggered and not ordered. That's what happened last time.
Cheers

Think I was right to order one, the bolt holding it in place only just came out with mole grips and a lot of twoing and froing and fluid. The plastic bit is cuddled up for the night in penetrating fluid.

Re: ABS sensor, change with wheel bearing?
Not a chance in hell of that coming out in one piece. New parts should be here this afternoon. In the end I hit it out with a hammer and wooden drift. The first 2 hits embedded it in the wood!
Just taken me 3 hours to get the bloody circlip out. This was after soaking, heating, soaking for days....hitting, heating, hitting.....soaking....made up some special tools, ground file handle end, it bent then snapped, a modified old flat blade screwdiver and the old wood file that I used to get the headstock race off the GPz yokes, along with a mole wrench to pull at it.
Now going to get the bearing out, sandblast the lower, treat with Fertan then paint. I've already removed the loose rust with a chipping hammer.
Oh what fun

Re: ABS sensor, change with wheel bearing?
Plus gas everything to death prior to disassembly over a couple of days. Have good quality torx and e-torx bits if they are required. Get the bearing AND an ABS sensor. Long bar to get the lower wishbone to hub separated. Wire or bungies to to hold the brake caliper out the way and the driveshaft tied back to stop it coming out. A mate with a press, circlip pliers if you're lucky, if not an overly sharp chisel / old screwdriver and a hammer.

Re: ABS sensor, change with wheel bearing?
I'm beginning to be grateful that the rear hub bearings on my Aircross are integrated into the rear Discs, so no grief there. Just changed mine recently. A little more expensive as they include the hub and ABS ring, but a lot easier and quicker to fit.
