Pug 308 1.6 Temp sensor problems.

Unread post by Fat fingers »

I've had the 308 for a couple of years and apart from the heater matrix giving up the ghost and front springs failing it's been relatively ok. The anti pollution warning comes and goes at random so I just ignore it. Last week it started running a bit rough and stalled in traffic once or twice. The next thing it came up with was the radiator fan coming on even though I'd only driven less than a mile and would keep running for around 10 minutes after I had stopped and turned the engine off. Consultation of google followed and it would appear I needed a new temperature sensor. One was duly purchased and I fitted it today, cue lots of swearing and skinned knuckles but it eventually went in. Start the car and the fan comes on along with the " engine temp too high" warning and the big red STOP!! light. Any advice on where I might have erred and polite suggestions will be appreciated

I had this last bit on my C5 when the car had been standing overnight so was clearly not the slightest bit warm.
Dropped it in at the garage near work and it was a temperature sensor gone on the blink.

It is not unusual to find even new sensors to be faulty. Especially from certain sources, so your new sensor could be the problem.
