Citroen C4 VTS 130 KW 2.0 Petrol

Unread post by dynamics_sila »

Hi Everyone,
I have just recorded the sounding of Citroen C4 VTS 180 hp , 2.0 Petrol and Gas. It's seemed to me a litlle bit strange, hearing that sound. What you think it could be, that produced thoues sound, like claping of something, is this normal sound od Petrol engine?

Thanx a lot

These are very difficult things to video as often sound quite different when recorded - and different again when played back (e.g. as I have just now = on a phone with tiny speaker unable to generate the low frequencies)

But for what it's worth I can't pick up anything particularly odd sounding.

Worth a go with an "engine stethoscope" but a long screwdriver will do. Press against each component and listen. Useful to pinpoint source of noises.

Bear in mind if doing this for the first time that you'll unearth a whole world of strange sounds - many of which are quite normal! E.g. strong clack clack of injectors firing, strong rhythmic whirr of belt driven components, can also hear the noise from camshaft bearings if 'scope pressed against the cylinder head.

Note also sound can travel through the metal components - I listened and convinced myself power steering pump was source of a noise by stethoscope, changed it (2nd hand pump, so fortunately not too costly) only to find sound was unchanged. Source of the noise was actually dry alternator bearings - both alternator and PAS pump shared a common mounting bracket.

Obviously EXTREME care when bringing stethoscope or screwdriver anywhere near auxiliary belt of a running engine.
