I am currently own of AX 1.5D 1995 Cascade 54bhp, I did not know there was three type of engine. One is 1.4d, 1.5d 54bhp LUCAS pump that I owned and 58bhp of 1.5d BOSCH pump which I have heard it did not on sale in UK.
I did a bit of search that the 1.4d is 53bhp 9 kg lighter because of interior is different from my 1.5d, so what is the point of making 1.5d with one extra horsepower, heavier and 2mpg thirsty? I would have enjoyed more in 1.4D if I had drive.
Why did made AX 1.5d that are worst than 1.4d?

Re: Why did made AX 1.5d that are worst than 1.4d?
The 1.5D, I believe and understand, was introduced to address some reliability problems with the 1.4... The 1.4 TUD is an alloy-blocked wet liner engine like its TU petrol counterparts and it is quite prone to head gasket problems due mainly to dropped liners.
Essentially, it's the petrol TU3 engine with a diesel cylinder head.
The 1.5 TUD is an iron blocked engine with damp liners. This resolved the issues with failing head gaskets...
The 1.4 TUD, being made of more aluminium, is a good bit lighter.
The Lucas injection pump, in my experience, always scores on economy but the Bosch is preferred in some quarters as it can run on straight vegetable oil but the Lucas emphatically cannot...
