tap seems to be coming from turbo ?

Unread post by sanderman James »

peugeot 3008 1.6 bluehdi eat6 auto 2016

need help with this one.
went on a 70 mile trip today, on returning home lifted bonnet, on idle was getting one tap about every 10 seconds seemed to be coming from turbo area, it wasn't a rattle, it was like you had tapped the turbo casing with a screwdriver, you could not hear it when driving and the car was running smooth was like a screw in there repeating every 10 seconds, hope you can help, regards James.

update,
the noise I think its heat like your oven cooling down from hot, started car this morning no noises from cold at all, come home from 50 mile run the noise was there again at idle, so I turned car of and was still doing this till engine cooled down around the heat shield around the turbo, car drives really well , the temp is normal, I wonder does anybody else has this happen, or is this normal.thanks

Heat shields do sometimes clank and bang when they expand or contract. Perhaps your car is on with a regeneration of the DPF - which gets the exhaust extra hot - so heat shield is on the move more than usual?

thanks for your reply,
do you get a symbol or warning when you go into a regen with DPF.

There are no warnings given when the car is regenerating under normal conditions.

I too had a noise - rattling on occasion - it was one of the various heat shields down the back of the engine. Took a Citroen engineer out for a spin and he knew straight away. It was tightened up and that resolved it.
