308 E-HDI fuel rail pressure fault.

Hope some might be able to help!

So went out the other week and about a mile up the road the esp off message came up and engine repair needed,Struggled to start after but when it does it's rough on idle knocking and in limp mode. computer reads P0192 fuel rail pressure to ground:low pressure. Bsi initialisation error and ESP unable to measure engine torque.

I changed the fuel filter no joy and Diagbox is giving the measurement from the sensor as 000 and requesting 800. Thought I'd go to a puegeot specialist to diagnose, but they can't seem to read data properly from the BSI or ECU. This model the E-HDI stop start late 2012 was the last of that model would the different software cause issue in reading data on their system? They are saying a new bsi,ECU or sensor

Basically unsure whether it's just a pressure sensor fault causing it and the computer issue is just a red herring or they're both connected. Btw car is on 128k

Your 'specialist' probably doesn't have the correct diagnostic tool / software version to read the ECUs, which is common for non-dealer garages.

Before you start wasting money replacing parts you may not need, I would just book it in to your dealer and get them to properly diagnose it. You really do need the fault codes correctly read, otherwise you are going to be potentially wasting money on something that may be a small problem of a sensor.

Forget all that about a new BSI - that alone will cost you over a £1000 excluding programming - and is extremely unlikely.

Pop up your VIN so I can see exactly which ECU to relate the fault code you do have to (please post your VIN in full without spaces - it will be automatically masked from public view after submitting your post & will only be visible to staff).

Ok so if the following fault codes come on P0191, P0192, P0193, P1621, then there is a known technical issue which involves replacement of the high pressure fuel sensor. But it must be diagnosed correctly in the absence of any other fault codes. The dealer will be aware of this Technical Bulletin.

For information only, the stand alone fault code explanation for this fault is:

Fault Code:	P0192
Description of Fault:	Measurement of the pressure in the fuel injection rail: Short circuit to earth: Pressure too low. Voltage lower than 200 mV.
Conditions for Fault to clear:	Driving for 5 minutes
Downgrade Modes whilst Fault is active:	Closing of the EGR (exhaust gas recycling) valve Irreversible deactivation of the vehicle speed limiter Irreversible deactivation of the vehicle cruise control Deactivation of taking account of the tight spot information Switching of the turbocharging pressure regulation to controlled mode Switching to fuel "normal reduced flow" mode Deactivation of the "easy-move" (electric parking brake) functionality Function for limitation of the static torque for the protection of the gearbox Warning lamps: Warning lamp MIL, "SERVICE" warning lamp.
Symptoms:	Jerking/stalling Engine acceleration at wrong time Noise Starting problem Lack of power Absence of automatic stopping of the internal combustion engine (If the vehicle has the Stop and Start system)
Suspect Areas:	Pressure sensor on the fuel high-pressure injection rail Electrical harness Connectors

So as you can see this fault will affect the ESP system and deactivate the described functions as a result of this fault. The sensor I described is also mentioned as a suspect, so if I were you, I would have the diagnostic confirmed at the dealers and as it's a known fault they may be able to sort something out - hard to say.

Just tell them you are aware of a TSB entitled

"ILLUMINATION OF THE ENGINE DIAGNOSTIC LIGHT - IN THE PRESENCE OF THE FAULT CODES P0191, P0192,
P0193, P1621"
