Erastic Idle on 106 gti

His my 98 "R" 106 gti has developed an eratic idle and hesitates under acceleration (also stalls occassioanlly) - its an ntermitent fault - I've changed the plugs but this done nothing - think its probably one of the sensor or the actual ignition module - any ideas??

FYI - Turned out to be the MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure) sensor - a common fault on pugs apprently

where did you find the map sensor and what did it look like? and how did you fix it as i have a simular problem

to be found on bulk head driver side "UK" check the vacuum pipe is ok and on tight.

If you put one of those cheap petrol filters in line it stops all the oil residue from contaminating the rubber diaphram inside the sensor. Also befor buying one they can be cleaned out by placing on a hot (no too much) radiator over night with some kitchen towel underneath. All the crap runs out.

where and what is the bulk head? sorry im being really stupid, as cant see the map sensor! i have a 98 106 xs (1.6)

Get the Haynes manual for your car, read it, and understand it. It will give details of the MAP sensor, and how to remove and refit.
