Son in law brought this ugly heap into Teesside a couple of days ago, loaded with millions of pounds worth of cars. It is usually Nissans going the other way.

I thought you were hinting the 29th was going to be a bit of bland, uninteresting day Neil
Was far from that for Mick and I

Not at all, a gentle encouragement. By 10.30pm, POTD was in danger of losing all its credibility with not a single picture posted by the FCF faithful. Steve thankfully rescued it with his pic of the big boat with a belly full of cars the Helios Ray.CitroJim wrote: 30 Dec 2022, 06:21 I thought you were hinting the 29th was going to be a bit of bland, uninteresting day Neil
Today's blank canvas awaits with eager anticipation of its first of maybe a few more...

One from me along with a questionNewcastleFalcon wrote: 30 Dec 2022, 09:06 Today's blank canvas awaits with eager anticipation of its first of maybe a few more...
I ran the Bury Field parkrun course early this morning to check the course was runnable ready for tomorrow morning's special New Year's Eve event. I'd heard parts of it were under water following heavy rain...
Happily it wasn't, just a bit muddy in parts... That's not a problem as we runners love running through mud
Looking at the man-made drainage watercourse in this picture and seeing how high it is, got me pondering what we call these. I've always called them rhynes and find that's a distinctly Somerset term... I suppose Somerset - on the Levels - has more rhynes than anywhere else in the UK so are entitled to have a special name for them!
What are they called in other parts of the UK?

Re: Picture(s) of the day....
I can chip in with the info that they are called dykes in East Anglia. One of our pastimes for evening entertainment during our school sailing holidays on the Broads was dyke jumping!! A very muddy endeavour!!
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!

Re: Picture(s) of the day....
We have a thread to mop up pubs and inns entitled
There could well be more "drain" related pub names...that's what the pub thread is for and should I discover any that's where they will be recorded...
Regards Neil
On a tangent from Jim's "Drain" picture, and with Dyke being a synonym, I can confirm that there is only one pub in the United Kingdom called the Dyke Neuk and its in Northumberland...and its doors have been darkened by the Falcons!

Re: Picture(s) of the day....
A few pictures today to make up for the omission yesterday. The reason for that was because Jim and I attended an auction near Leicester to see if we could grab a bargain or two. We weren't that successful but we did come away with some good things. This is some of the lots that interested us but passed us by in the bidding:
But some of our wins made the trip worthwhile and anyway with a stop for dinner on the way home we had a great day out!!

Hugely enjoyed our day out Mick
To coin a phrase used a lot yesterday by the auctioneer, I was 'amazed' at just how much I did enjoy it
She was a brilliant auctioneer and I ended up quite fancying her. Her daughter is absolutely gorgeous
The biggest enjoyment was spending some quality time out with you Mick
It truly was a great day out
