Xantia Activa - De CAT ?

I just purchased an Ebay bargain. An N reg ACTIVA.
The exhaust is blowing a little. It'll need a new section or two soon. Its a 1996 model. Would anyone notice if i get rid of the CAT.
What effect will it have on the performance ?

Any petrol engined car from 1992 onwards will need its cat to be able to pass the MOT. The garage will have emission data for your model, which it must achieve, or it's a fail. Remove the cat and the emissions (particularly CO) will be out of tolerance.

But you could remove it after MOT and install it before the next...
It makes a great difference in fuel economy, and engine is a little more responsive.

and your CAT won't wear out sitting on a shelf [:D]
but obviously this is highly illegal, and you will burn in hell for it forever.

somebody mentioned something about a piece of exhaust that can be fitted in place of the cat and can surely fool the mot people. Another option would be installing flanges on the exhaust, the cat and a straight piece of pipe so you are able to remove it and re install it later quick and easy.

Only problem here is that it wouldn't fool the emissions testing machine!
