Hi,
Collected our new car today, Citroen C5X. I should have checked before I left the dealership but the locking wheel bolt key is missing, it’s not in the car.
Dealership is 2hrs away, called them up and they don’t seem to be able to find it. They’re now closed till Tuesday so will call me back next week.
Does anyone know if Citroen record the locking wheel bolt key number against the chassis number so they can provide a replacement key?
Thanks
Paul

Re: Citroen C5X locking wheel nut key
Yes the locking key number is recorded against the VIN, they normally take a few weeks to order, Its sometime easier to just knock the old ones off & fit a new set.
Some dealerships have the master sets & they just try them till they get the right one, There are only around 30 different combinations. Some of the fast fit tyre centres also carry master sets for some manufacturers.

There's a strong argument for throwing away the locking nuts and fitting normal nuts. Wheel theft isn't that common a 'thing', whereas getting caught out by a failed or lost security nut is. Each to their own, of course.

You mean they couldn't be bothered looking for it on a Friday afternoonpaulmac1978 wrote: 23 Dec 2022, 19:36 Dealership is 2hrs away, called them up and they don’t seem to be able to find it. They’re now closed till Tuesday so will call me back next week.

The key number should be on file anyway but if it was me, I'd schedule an appointment with them next week to have the locking bolts removed and replaced with normal bolts like bobins suggested

Re: Citroen C5X locking wheel nut key
Thanks Wheeler, that’s some relief at least.
The dealer said 4 cars went out today and so someone might have 2 keys as they can’t find it, they will be contacting everyone as possibly a total mix up. I’ll be back onto them on Tuesday.
I agree with removing them altogether though and replacing them with normal bolts, had problems before with either the keys or the bolts and never replaced them.

I personally think locking wheel bolts are the work of the devil, I dont know anyone that has had a wheel stolen since the 1990's.
I always remove them from my cars straight away.

Re: Citroen C5X locking wheel nut key
I can't be doing with locking wheel bolts either, especially PSA latter design half-holes in the bolt and easily mangled pins in the locking key
However, every car I've had with the dealer supplied ones (despite being usually a good decade or more since left the dealership before coming into my ownership!) Has had two keys in the little plastic box.
Do they only give you one measley key with the things now!?
I've swapped to normal bolts on the half-hole type. The older spline type (very easily defeated!) Don't seem troublesome so left them in place.
I think wheel theft still does happen, but only fairly exotic stuff seems to be targeted. (Catalyst theft seems to be more of a thing of late)

Re: Citroen C5X locking wheel nut key
Got some unplanned long distance travelling to do now Monday/Tuesday so not to temp fate I found a local company this this morning called ‘Nuts Off’ based in a Holytown, Scotland, just 5 minutes away from us.
He had all 4 off in less than 5 minutes and replaced them with genuine Citroen standard bolts. Was really surprised how quick he got them off and no damage at all to the wheels. He says he mainly does main dealer and breakdown work and guarantees no damage to wheels.
I won’t be replacing them anytime soon!

I think that just goes to show how inadequate locking wheel nuts are

Re: Citroen C5X locking wheel nut key
My C5 X7 had one key stashed in the foam insert thingy that goes in the spare wheel well.
Great news! Probably cheaper than making a 4-hour round trip to the dealer as wellpaulmac1978 wrote: 24 Dec 2022, 12:17 He had all 4 off in less than 5 minutes and replaced them with genuine Citroen standard bolts.
