Can someone help me with LDS replacement C5 mk1

Unread post by berdza »

Hi, I was looking under my hood casualy to inspect if everything is holdin' up(fond a broken servo pipe)

I want to replace it and I know that I need to drain all my LDS, and yes I have seen the posts from 2018 on LDS replacement but I would like to know is it necessary to apply 0.5 bar in the LDS reservoir because I don't have the tool, and if anyone has experience, how do I connect bicycle pump to that reservoir myb on the most upper return inlet.

I also have a question what is this part(C5 mk1 facelift 1.6hdi 80kw)

It does not make any sense to me. The large hose is running from turbo to ic but there appears to be some kind of sensor and i dont know what it is or what it does.
Thanks in advance.

That whole unit is the air mixer assembly.
Please note, I'm no longer active on the Forum, so won't respond to messages.

Ahaaa, I have just seen your post from 2019, so it basically mixes hot and cool air(Didn't know that was an option). Thank you very much

Regarding the LDS tank pressurisation, it is only to help the pump priming if the pump has air in it. It may not be necessary at all. If the pump does not self-prime, then you could try blowing through a hose (somehow) adapted to seal to the tank opening.

Thank you man, love to hear it.

I got a reservoir cap from my local scrapyard, drilled a large enough hole in it, and fitted a tyre valve. With a bike pump that was enough to re-pressurise the pump.

I will be doing it without pressure and I will check the car height just to know if any changes happend.

If (as xantia_V6 pointed out) the pump has air in it it will not self prime, which is why you would need to pressurise it. That is why I posted my simple fix.

As much as I know the pump is under the reservoir(correct me if I am wrong), so when i drain the reservoir the fluid should stay in the pump.
One time when i was changing my headlight bulb it was hard to reach so i tried to remove the reservoir to get some space and the drain hose fell out and all LDS drained out. The car didn't sink down(I think it is because i removed the car battery before all of that) I just put hose back and refilled it with LDS never had any issues. If u know the easiest way to change that power steering hose I am all ears. Thanks

Sometimes I need to help the pump a little, even when the system has only been depressurised.
Anyway, if it's not rising after it is turned on, it needs priming. :)
