c4 picasso puretech timing

Unread post by nuz18t »

Hi everyone
Hoping some expert friend can help me out with an issue on a 2017 c4 picasso 1.2 puretech VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]
Long story short, about an year ago i have replace timing belt on this c4 because oil ligth was flashing, sump removal, clean strainer, new belt, oil , etc...
On that time there was 3 fault codes that i couldnt delete p1034 66, p1033 66, p1032 66 permanent self-ignition before spark, rumble frequency to low, average and high incidence), car was running fine, without engine malfuncion on, decided to let it go thinking will need some cycles to relearn and clear out, run out of ideas at tht time for this 3 fault codes, same as now, as cant find a away to re-set rumble frequency...
Lately car as bring a new fault code p0011 00 Intake camshaft dephaser locking, first thing i did was check the timing, all fine, i have after replace the solenoid for inlet dephaser, made no difference, ive replaced the inlect dephaser and sadly fault code still pops almost immediatly after starting the engine... wonder if anyone can trow a ligth on this issue...
Also both autodata and e3 technical dont mencion that cranck tool its fitted in tdc, i have notice that cranck locking tool locks in without any cylinder on tdc, does anyone knows if thats how suposed to be, as im starting to think that timing been always off, car fires up easy and smooth silent idle...
Thanks in advance...

Here are the fault descriptors (I've had to translate these, but they should make sense), but may not be of much help as there is such a wide range of possibilities as you can see....
Fault Code: P1032 66
Description of Fault: Self-ignition before spark (Rumble) (Low occurrence): Frequency too high. Detection of untimely ignition of the mixture in the cylinder before the production of the spark.
Conditions for Fault to clear: Using the diagnostic tool
Downgrade Modes whilst Fault is active: -
Symptoms:
  • Jerks, stalling
  • Lack of power
  • Difficult or impossible activation of the vehicle speed limitation or regulation function
  • Deactivation or cut-off of the cruise control/vehicle speed limit function
  • Starting problem
  • Lack of automatic shutdown of the heat engine
  • Vibration
  • Growl / hum / hum
  • Hiss and siren / hiss / air noise
  • Malfunction of hot air production
  • Defog/defrost malfunction
  • Engine malfunction at idle
  • Problem with the Stop and Start "ECO" warning light on the instrument panel lighting up
  • Powertrain actuation problem
  • Problem with automatic restart of the heat engine
  • Malfunction of the Stop and Start command
Suspect Areas:
  • Spark plugs
  • Air ducts
  • Oil vapor recycling circuit
  • Fuel
  • Charge air cooler
  • Engine oil
  • Engine control computer
  • Electrical harness
  • Pistons-axes-segments
  • Turbocharger
  • Turbocharger pressure control solenoid valve
  • Variable geometry turbocharger control
  • Cylinders

My interpretation is that the fault is triggered by the knock sensor detecting an unexpected noise that might be a rumble. Try listening with a stethoscope on the block or head to see if you can hear anything.

First of all I think I forgot to mention you have an outstanding recall (after sales campaign) being flagged up on this vehicle, so I'd give Citroen a call and they'll be able to tell you what it's for - but don't hang about. The Work will be free of charge.

As for that code, I don't have that specific code for this engine unfortunately, but i know that code p0011 has been part of a technical service bulletin for these engines on several models and does concern the contamination of the oil as a result most likely of the timing belt issues on these engines.

This is the TSB for the EB2ADT 81KW engine, so whether it relates to your issues with this latest code I can't say, but I've also seen this document for other models with this engine. I've had to translate it, so be aware.

"DIAGNOSTIC LIGHT ILLUMINATION - IN THE PRESENCE OF FAULT CODES P0011, P0014
CONDITIONS OF APPEARANCE: VEHICLE WITH MILEAGE OVER 20,000 KM

1. ORIGIN
Timing belt .
2. AFTER-SALES INTERVENTION

The diagnosis carried out goes back to the central servers if and only if it is carried out in Internet connected mode, if the technician is authorized to use the guided methods and if the diagnosis is carried out from the "TROUBLESHOOTING" menu from the "Diagnosis" or "Expert" . At the end of the global test, wait for the start of the Diagnosis tab (home screen with selection of methods by domain) . Exit the Diagnosis session by returning to the home tab. Validate the message "Do you want to leave the
current session?"

Read fault codes:
  • In the presence of fault code(s) P0011, P0014: Apply this document

Quick update, mite help someone on future, so decided to take Lexia out the cabinet, on repair there’s a section for “ inlet dephaser replacement, tick yes and all running good now! Other fault still on, resetting all options on rumble but fault codes won’t go nowhere, don’t think it’s a faulty knock sensor as that should pop other fault codes for knock sensor… will possibly ré-flash ecu and see how it goes…

Do you have any updates on this? I'm having the same problem with fault codes P1032 and P1033. The engine runs fine but the fault codes cannot be cleared.
