Actually, Neil, it is the second light dot from the right. I have done the trig on the maps and the first bright dot is near Gullane.

Dormouse wrote: 15 Dec 2022, 09:07 On the upside, it is an unusual shot that captures both coastlines without going all the way up to the bridges and, just for Neil, the last white dot of light on the right must be Fidra Lighthouse (or very close to it) near Direlton. Alas, North Berwick and Chez Dormouse are not in shot - both being too far around the headlands.
Nothing I like better than a random link, and your post mentioning Dirleton, will result if I find it an entry on the embryonic thread I started "Pub Gallery", with a little factoid and claim to fame for an establishment there, which were it not for your picture of the day post I wouldn't have come across :-D

I take it you are not referring to the Open Arms, on the Green, but an older building sharing the same view.

Not long after my granddaughter came back from there. I wonder if she had anything to do with it?

Interesting reading on one of Britain's wild mammals with some excellent pictures entitled

"Turning White for Winter"
https://www.robertefuller.com/diary/ani ... e-seasons/

Saw one today, for the second time running across the road and along the verge but in a fleeting no chance of a photo situation while driving the car.
There is a link here to the photograph in the article of the partially in ermine stoat. In the autumn they turn white from the tail to the head. The one we saw was normal colour with a white tail and a black tip as in the link here

How on earth did we get to this for Picture of the Day from the days when outrageous claims for products were de rigueur :?:

Peter N had something to do with it on this thread
