Hello everyone!
I have recently discovered that there is diesel pooling around the far right injector (from the drivers POV).
I tried cleaning it up, but after my daily commute (40km) the diesel started to appear again.
I tried seeing where the diesel is leaking from, while stationary at idling, but no luck as the leak seems to be very weak.
I cleaned up around injector and went for a drive and it doesn't seem like it is leaking from the bottom of the injector, which could indicate a bad injector washer.
I also heard these injectors are a pain to get out and that is even if it comes out at all!
Judging by the photo it seems like it may be leaking from the top part of the injector as it was a bit greasier at the top of the injector.
Did anyone here have any similar issues on their HDI diesel injector, or any possible remedies?
I haven't found much on the topic of leaking injectors on these "newer" HDIs...
It's a 2012 C5 2.2 HDI (150kW).
Any input would be greatly appreciated!

Has really no one experinced any of these issues on their HDI injectors?

Re: Pooling of diesel around injector (2.2HDI)
I think people have but just not shared their experiences. I take it the clamp stud is properly torqued. If so, then I still suspect the seal for the injector would be the most likely source if all the other pipes and joints are tight' - I assume you have checked them for tightness. I will root around the threads over the next day or so and see what there is on diesel leakage, you can try too, if you wish, using the Search button on the top left of the page, but, if it is coming from the top of the injector, as you surmise, then that is a bit unusual if everything is correctly assembled. Give us a bit more time and we will see what we can find.

Re: Pooling of diesel around injector (2.2HDI)
I have looked around this forum (and google in general), but I havent found any thread where the leak would be from above. I checked all the pipes and all seem tight.
I however couldnt remove the injector as the car is my daily and can't risk beeing without the car if annything goes wrong with the removal of the injector.
I also called a local diesel injector specialist and he said these don't fail often. But they can break during the removal and said he can't guarantee it won't.
I'm guessing if the injector breaks while in the cylinder head, it would require a new cylinder head and all the labour associated with replacing it.
Appreciate the response. If you are able to find any thing on the topic that I havent yet, do let me know please.
Cheers!

Re: Pooling of diesel around injector (2.2HDI)
I had an issue after the engine was re-built. In the end, we had to assume the injector was fractured because we tried everything. Re cored the seat, tried numerous copper seals of varying thicknesses, replaced the nuts & bolts, nothing stopped the leak.C5X7_2_2HDI wrote: 30 Nov 2022, 19:53 Hello everyone!

Sent the injector to Darwen Diesels https://www.darwendiesels.com/ who sent a rebuilt injector for our 2007 C4 with the DV6 engine for around the £120 mark.
Car runs like a watch once again, no more leaks, no smells, no unwanted smoke from the engine bay....
However, that was extreme as we did have to force the injectors out. It could just be the clamps holding the injector have come loose. Make sure they are tight (but not overboard as the head is alloy) and that the injector can't move. Another possibility is the tiny "O" ring seal on the leak off pipe is done. They are pennies from Citroen, but do not buy ebay cheapies.... You can buy a bag of 10 from Darwen Diesels for around £1 odd.
Has anyone seen the plot?

I haven't found anything routine either. So this replacement injector idea might be the route to take here.

Re: Pooling of diesel around injector (2.2HDI)
Well after a break I am back to report on my problems if anyone in the future comes across something similar.
I started by unbolting the high-pressure pipes to the injector, which all seemed fine.
Then I removed the bolt that clamps down on the injector via a clamp.
At that point there was only the fuel return line connector which I disconnected.
The next thing was pulling out the injector.
I thought this would be tough, but it was the exact opposite (thankfully!), as the injector came out without any problems.
I inspected the injector and copper washer which has seen better days but wasn't crushed abnormally or had any wedges.
Most importantly there was no indication of diesel leaking from the combustion chamber to the outside, which usually causes hard-to-remove injectors and eventually the black death.
So I refitted everything, started the car, and at first the car took a while to start as there was no diesel in the system.
After about 10 seconds the engine started and the fuel return line started leaking immediately where the return line connector connects to the injector.
Unfortunately the leak was so severe that I had to order the new o-rings that sit between injector and return line connector.
I also ordered new return line with connector and copper washers for all 4 injectors (see the picture of the new parts).
When I got the parts I refitted a new o-ring for injector #1 and installed a new return line.
I will install all the other parts during the holidays as I was in a bit of a rush to get the car going again.
The good news is there is no more leak so the combination of a new o-ring and new return line fixed my problem.
Hope this might help anyone else in a similar situation with diesel leaking near injector.
