Fifth Injector
Sorry this is a bit long winded, but I've tried to put as much info in as possible.
Peugeot Boxer 2016 2.2 110 68000 miles
Symptoms
Poor fuel consumption
Lack of power, rough acceleration
Occasional bursts of thick grey smoke
Pinking usually under acceleration
Strong smell of unburnt fuel at exhaust
Code P0423 92 Atomizer for injection of fuel at the exhaust
Internal fault.
Simple but expensive; Buy replacement atomizer (genuine from Peugeot)
Went to install new unit, battery tray out, induction heater on and out it came.
Found that the +ve connection had at some point shorted on to the metal clip.
However also found that the -ve wire had melted all the way back to the earth point under the bonnet
Replaced unit and replaced -ve cable through loom.
Fault and symptoms remained
Tests so far power to relay, power to relay switching circuit and power to connector at injector, (this was proven by connecting a 55watt test lamp in place of injector)
Test run and test light came on after a couple of miles and then did not switch off.
So am I looking at sensors? Or could the short have goosed the ECU or?
Any help would be appreciated, with diesel now over £2 litre here I can't afford to keep filling it up!!

Hi, and
to the Forum.
Give it time. Those members who understand this sort of thing (I certainly DON'T!) might be out doing other things (such as getting ready for Fireworks Night). With any luck it won't be too long before somebody more knowledgeable than I will see this thread and respond.

Re: Fifth Injector
Hi
It will help if you provide VIN so we can identify the exact engine variant, as I suspect you may have one of the Ford Puma engines that use an injector for fuel atomisation as part of the emissions equipment.
This being the case, if the part is replaced, then you need a professional diagnostics tool like Diagox to tell the engine ECU the part has been replaced, clear the faults from memory and also to re-prime the atomiser using the diagnostic tool.

Thanks very much for input Marc
Is it safe to put the VIN on here? (not really used forums before)
You're correct in that that is what the injector is about.
I have the AUTEL Maxicom diagnostic tool, so probably nowhere near sophisticated enough?
It's also been connected to a top spec autel as well as a snap on unit.
I am assuming that this sort of operation is something that will involve a main dealer?

Re: Fifth Injector
This Forum has software that will obscure the VIN so only Forum Moderators can read it (like this; VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff] ).

Yes, please just enter your VIN as normal without spaces and the software will obfuscate it for you, so only staff can read it.
I can't speak for the aftermarket diagnostic systems, as I only deal with the Official tools, but next time you have your diagnostic connected, have a look around to see if there is anything like a replacement parts menu or whether you can find the option in the engine ECU menu. If not, then you will likely need to get it to somebody with Peugeot / Citroen diagnostic equipment.
This being a Ford engine, I know that those vehicles fitted with them, generally need an additional module attached to the diagnostic hardware VCI before it will function correctly. This is referred to as an S1279 module and is required for FIAT and FORD-engined vehicles which includes the Boxer III. This applies even to the official diagnostic tools, that the dealer will have.
So it may be a requirement if you don't have any luck with the systems you already have access to.

Hi Marc
VIN is VF3**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]
There seems to be quite a choice of (presumably pirated) Diagbox software on fleabay, along with cables etc. Is this worth considering or would I be wasting money?

Re: Fifth Injector
The Lexia/DiagBox equipment was never meant to be available to the public. However, people have managed to clone them. I have such a clone, purchased from Easy Diagnostics (and am very happy with it). Their equipment has a complete 'opto-coupler' set, so can handle most of the modern PSA vehicles (some of the cheaper clones have a reduced set, so cannot 'manage' some vehicles). However, some vans were made in conjunction with FIAT and Ford, and will probably need the S.1279 module as well (Easy Diagnostics did supply these modules for a while, but stopped due to quality issues), which can be purchased from ebay.
Something Easy Diagnostics can do is to supply a complete Lexia system, including a laptop with the software already installed. This will save a load of hassle (although you will need to get the S.1279 module for it to work with vans).
https://www.easydiagnostics.co.uk/shop
However, they are currently out of stock of the Lexia equipment, which is a fairly common occurrence for them (which suggests the quality and reputation of the equipment they supply).

Ok, so confirmed as a 2.2L Puma 110 Engine, so what I said previously is applicable.John1966 wrote: 05 Nov 2022, 17:31 Hi Marc

One other important thing John: Your vehicle is being flagged up with an outstanding aftersales campaign notification. I can't tell you what it is, but give your local Peugeot garage a ring with your registration and they will be able to tell you what it involves, but the work will be free. I wouldn't leave it though as it could be important to the correct running of the van.
Back on the diagnostics: There are various suppliers of the clones of the PSA diagnostic tools and all vary in quality and support. If considering one you will need your own suitable-specced laptop to use for this purpose to install the software on which is very messy. You will need to purchase the S1279 module separately too.
Many forum members use Easydiagnostics, including myself. Although not affiliated in any way, there is a discount for members. Link below from the Diagnostics section. Other suppliers are available of course.

Re: Fifth Injector
Thanks for the advice
I'll look into getting a system from Easy Diagnostics when it's back in stock, as for me to get it to a main dealer even just for diagnostics that isn't arnorld shark would involve at least a 3 day trip and associated costs.
I'm aware that it may not solve the problems but I think that's a gamble I'll have to take.
Meanwhile the grotty green (several shades of) berlingo will have to be pressed into service!

Re: Fifth Injector
Just for info the outstanding recall is for the side door switch, dates back to 2016 when the van was new!GiveMeABreak wrote: 05 Nov 2022, 17:41Ok, so confirmed as a 2.2L Puma 110 Engine, so what I said previously is applicable.John1966 wrote: 05 Nov 2022, 17:31 Hi Marc

Re: Fifth Injector
Does anyone have any experience with the AUTEL Maxisys 909 and if so is it able to carry out equivalent operations to the Lexia / Diagbox ?

Re: Fifth Injector
Have a look here John. From what I'm reading there's not even a mention of Citroen or Peugeot.... The standard functions may be available on another page - but for £3k plus VAT I would hope so.
