mickthemaverick wrote: 26 Oct 2022, 10:40 Random quiz question generated from a page in my 1972 quiz book!!

A famous incident occurred on 27th August 1883 which had an instant effect up to 3000 miles away, and a prolonged effect for months. What was it? :-D

So top of the head, a volcanic eruption would be a reasonable incident to fit the bill and, cause such an effect, when was Kracatoa? (probablly spelt that incorrectly but you know what I mean).

Regards Neil
I used to know a chiropodist who was good at that!! :-D

It just might have been on 27th August 1883 - well done TOH! and for the record it is spelt Krakatoa! :-D
The explosion caused ash to be propelled 50 miles into the air, was heard up to 3000 miles away and encircled the globe for months!! 36000 people died as a result of the eruption!

The film title : "Krakatoa, East of Java" was factually incorrect. Krakatoa is actually West of Java :) ....... although, technically, if you go East enough you'll eventually come across it

You could argue that on that fateful day in 1883 Krakatoa was North, East, South and West of Java!! :-D

What! :?: How :?: Never heard of it, and never saw the Karate Kid Part II :!: Steely Dan's drummer on the Album Katy Lied played on the track though!

Hats off to the Maverick!

This was my best today
Falcon no match for return to form Heardle
Falcon 2 Heardle 5
60's (2 secs) 70's (2 secs)
Match analysis
Falcon notched up an early lead, but then from the 80's on Heardle dominated

Now there's a question you'll wish you hadn't asked :-D
Back in the 90s I had a girlfriend who was heavily into her music and she used to use music to express her thoughts and feelings! On one occasion she sent me an audio message containing Elton John's Something About the Way You Look Tonight which took my breath away so I responded with Glory of Love and a short message which I ended with et cetera.......!! Now you know!! I shall go and put both tracks on the jukebox for a personal memory!! :-D

Probably early 90's when I got my first Mobile Phone, but on a trivial front, I wonder what was the platform used for the "audio messages" flying across the airways, down the wires, on the answerphone, or through the letterbox in cassette tapes! :-D

The singing postman was mentioned in passing on my POTD entry.

100 points if you can name him without looking it up

101 points if you look it up! More effort=more points!

Follow it up with the real name of the singing nun and her most famous recording for no points just the satisfaction of curiosity satisfied. :-D

Spoiler: show
If memory serves me it was either Alan or Andy Smethurst and his song about his "nicotine gal". The singing Nun was from Belgium but no idea about her name, her big song was "Dominique" :?: :-D

Bit of a mixed bag today but ok for me! :-D

Original. No idea
00s. Ditto
00s b. Ditto
90s. 1 note
80s. Ditto
70s. 12 secs
60s. 8 secs

What is getting spooky though is that the reason I know the 90s so well is that it is the theme to the first film I saw with my 90s girlfriend who I mentioned before. As a result of seeing that, and because of discretion about our situation we addressed each other as Rose and Jack in all our written communications!! :-D
