Citroen Xsara picasso, location of crankshaft position. Sensor

Unread post by mobbsshane »

Hi. I have an old xsara picasso 56 plate 1.6l. I'm getting symptoms and an ocd code reading that indicates the crankshaft sensor needs replacing. My problem is that I can't locate it. I've read that it might be positioned behind the auxhillary drive belt pulley (the pulley attaching to the crankshaft). I've removed that and the plastic cover trim bit can't trace anything. Ive also read that it may be near the flywheel and aside of a sensor on top of the bell housing (under the air filter). However that sensor doesn't look the ones wilco indicate are for the vehicle. Can anyone help please?

Is this a petrol or diesel 1.6?
On the diesel its at the crank pulley, petrol its on the bell housing.

Thanks for your reply. It's a petrol. Whereabouts on the bell housing?

This is only sensor I can see. It's from the top of the bell housing, probably about 6 inches or so from the engine block. Is that it? It doesn't look the right shape as its hex top and so probably threaded

To me that looks more like the reversing lights switch... The Crank/TDC sensor would have to be in the top of the bellhousing very close to the engine so that it could 'read' the flywheel position...

It may well be at the back on the bellhousing as you look from under the bonnet and not easy to spot, especially if hemmed in by other bits and pieces...

Imagine that's the reverse light switch, Should be the same engine as this Berlingo, see about 11:40 and 16:30 where he shows the location of the CKP. Note that background to this was that it wouldn't run as the replacement sensor was no good.

Thanks for the responses. So I finally found behind coolant pipes and covered in grease which hid it well. For those that want to definatively know, it's located to the front of the engine to the right of the exhaust manifold, by the flywheel, attached to the gearbox with a 10mm bolt, behind the coolant pipes. Phew
