BSI configuration settings - Peugeot 508

Hi,

So this car was thought to have a electric issue and had the ecu/bsi recoded. Before bsi was removed I mistakenly forgot to save or take pics of all the configuration options in the bsi. Now that car is functional and mechanically sound. There is some missing configuration options.

Is there a way to obtain the full list of configurations for my vin number?

No, not really as the BSI is configured in internet connected mode from Peugeot's servers, in order that the correct engine, gearbox, engine ECU and other crucial ECUs and systems are all correctly setup for the correct model as your vehicle left the factory with its fitted equipment and options.

There are literally thousands of settings. Some may be detected by the BSI, but of course there will be parameters that may not be correct or set for your specific vehicle. There is no 'list' of options that exist anywhere unless you made notes / screenshots before hand - but even with that, there are some parameters that are hidden in lower levels - especially with ECU parameters.

The best (and safest) way would be to book a session with your Peugeot dealer and ask them to download the configuration for you. That way, you would at least ensure it is configured correctly for safety reasons as you don't want things going pear shaped all of a sudden. It's worth noting that your insurance may not be valid in an accident if the vehicle's systems failed in an accident as a result of mis or non-configuration. The BSI is the brain of the vehicle, so really must be correctly configured. I've helped a few members after they changed one setting and the car lit up like a Christmas tree, so not to be taken lightly.

I may be able to help with some specific options, but only for some equipment / features, and not the main BSI configuration.

Thanks for the reply. I spent a while yesterday going through each configuration in the pack repair>manual configuration>configure and display option.

The menus shown are engine/lighting and signalling/driver information/comfort/miscellaneous/driving assistance/mechanical assistance and ecu's present

I think most of them are there, I used a previous 508 with the same engine/gearbox and year but just not the sw/avant model and not some of the options such as xenon lights/moonroof and blind and perhaps some AC options. Are you able to check if my options are configured correctly?

Funnily enough whilst doing this I tried to call the two local Peugeot dealers, the bigger of the two said some stupid value of $250/hour to see the car and then when I asked can I just have a quote to configure or reprogram the settings, he put me on hold then said we don't do that here. Go to such and such. Are all dealers equivalent? I assumed all of them would have the capability to plug into diagbox and use the internet?

All official dealers have the equipment and diagnostic tools and access to do this, but whether they will actually do it is another matter.

It depends on the dealership and staff experience. For example, if you needed a new BSI, they would order one, fit it and code it and follow more or less what I mentioned. However, applying the same on an existing BSI may give rise to issues, for which they may not want to be liable, as the BSI is not new, so if anything were to present, they would not want the responsibility. The diagnostic time is pretty standard. It takes time to do with a technician and then a manual check afterwards and possible road test to make sure everything works.

I'll be giving the place the dealer mentioned a call.

I assumed it would be a standard plug into OBD2 and go through diagbox. I assumed an hour or so max to be honest. Or do they take bsi out and configure it like that?

I called the dealer that was recommended, they're honestly so annoying to deal with. Won't give me a quote to do it and want to charge an initial diagnostic fee of 176 plus however long it takes them to do the configuration, also cannot slot me in for another 3 weeks apparently. Not sure if pug dealers are different in uk but i despise dealing with the stealers. Worse case will have to resort to them. Will try calling another one tomorrow

Is this configuration style settings available on sbox? I have it until 2014-2015? Would that suffice? Or is it only available online?

ECU updating / online configuration on this vehicle requires access to PSA servers in online connected mode, for which you need an account, the correct hardware and updated software and paid time-based access.

I don't know what you are referring to when you say "sbox".

All BSI configurations are done completely via OBD & doesn’t take anywhere near an hour.
Back in the day internet config of a BSI was a waste of time, not very reliable & you ended up having to go in & manually correct loads of things anyway. Same with ‘pre configured’ parts, waste of time & always needed manual alterations.
They used to issue manual configuration instructions on what were known as Info Diags, i dont know if these are still done or not? The internet configuration is a bit better nowadays.

They allow that time as a minimum as even automatic configuration can take 3 attempts or so. Of course the customer options have to be manually checked in any case, so that could easily take an hour all told and then there's the time to print out existing configuration before updating that any decent garage / dealer would do as recommended.

I've not seen any Info Diags for years now - I suspect they knocked that on the head as these were being circulated and now keep them on the portal.
