Can I "Code" a Key?

Unread post by KDM »

Hi

My C4 Picasso has just had a "BSI update" done at Citroen. There was only one key with it at the time, and on return home i found that the "spare" key no longer works.

The dealer tells me it probably needs recoded to the car. I had the job done at a dealership a good way from where I live and am reluctant to trek out there. The local dealer says for them it's a new job and it will cost £65.

Is this something i can do myself?

Thanks.

It's the reason why any and all keys must be coded at the same time, or it will lock out any keys / fobs not coded in the session. To be honest they usually ask you at the time or advise bringing the spare with you, as this is the inevitable consequence.

Whether you can get a car key programmer to do this now or not I can't say, but may be worth finding a Timpsons and giving them a call..

If you have Lexia/Diagbox & your security code then it's an easy job to reprogram the keys.

The dealer should have advised you to bring all the cars keys if they were doing a BSI update, Might be worth contacting the dealer that done the update & see if they can talk to your local dealer & come to an arrangement to re code the keys for you, it's less than 10 minutes work.

I reckoned it would be. Less than 10 minutes. 45 minutes. Mostly with me sitting looking at the car and nothing happening.

Then when I got the car back, the Service light was on, the reg plate lights weren't working, the high-level brake light was dim and flickery and the front left headlight was out.
