Broken down
Just had to be rescued from the lake District. Was going up a hill and i lost power. Had to limp the c5 into a lay by. It looks like there is a fuel supply problem. I've changed fuel filter about a month ago so I'm thinking it is probably the fuel sender is full of crap.

In fact, which of the cars?

Re: Broken down
Hi guys, sorry for not puttin gin the basic information needed.
I have a c5 2.0 litre 138BHP diesel estate mark 2.
I had no choice but to take it straight to my mechanic, Dave Ashworth to sort it out as I have recently buggered my back up and can't bend to repair the car. Dave was saying it is most probably going to be the EGR valve which has been causing problems for a while.
I was going up a gradual (not to steep) hill and the car just started to lose power and go slower and slower almost like limp mode. I managed to get pulled into a lay-by and put the car in neutral. I could only get the car to rev by pumping the accelerator. Car was lumpy and felt like it was being starved of fuel.
Anyway I should get a call today to tell me what is wrong and how much money it is going to cost. I'll update the group as soon as I know.

Re: Broken down
If the car sounds 'raspy' with lack of power this can also be a turbo hose air leak. It happened to me and was very hard to locate, but that was what it was on the same vehicle and engine as you.

Re: Broken down
First place to look on the C5 HDI is the MAF sensor, a failed one will make it very sluggish and needing to get right down the gears for even a moderate hill'
There's a video here for the 1.6 that will give you an idea of what to look for, the 2 litre one is a bit easier to get at with jubilee clips at both ends. Cleaning is not always an answer so look out for a new one, plenty on Ebay usually.

Re: Broken down
This was more than sluggish, after i pulled into the layby i tried putting the c5 into gear, is an automatic. The car just stalled every time i tried.

Re: Broken down
Pmsl, great sign off on that post!! I'm now wondering if my C8 uphill issues is fixable rather than being a car trait.

Re: Broken down
Maf sensors can cause a mine field of issues when they start to break down, BUT never rule out glow plugs . I keep mentioning glow plugs on here and lots say no you dont need them an old 206 i had 6 yr ago did all of the above and more and yes a different car 1 broken plug 3 dead ones , makes the maf work harder as the fuel isnt burning as it should. If the plugs are fine then change the maf , and check any sensors to the turbo if there's a turbo involved , Also the fuel breather house if that has water in the car will play up , the breather can be unplugged then lowered and if its water logged watch that come out .
