Citroen Relay DPF regen issues, info please

Unread post by Spice52 »

Hello

i Have a 2017 Citroen relay, yesterday it went into limp mode with a dpf regen issue, had it forced regen and it went straight back into limp mode so now having the dpf removed for a full clean.

question is do you know when the van is re-genning..?

on my car yiu can tell with the smell, different engine note etc, but on the van I’ve not noticed it once..?

should a light come on….?

its got 115000 miles but with full dealer history, I change the oil every 5000 miles and we always do long runs, it’s got a speed limiter on it but sits at 2250rpm, I would think this should be enough for a regen..?

I don’t like to rev the van hard, but maybe every 500 miles I should drive at say 2750 to 3000rpm..?

I’ve read it can be down to poor fuel, I use Tesco”s maybe I should use shell, texaco etc….if that makes any difference…?

is it a good idea to use a in tank additive every 1000 miles…?

thanks for help 👍👍

Best to pop your VIN up (automasked on post submission) so I can see what engine you have and what DPF system as some with the Ford engines don't have additive IIRC. It well save me asking questions that are not relevant.

Don't worry, as I said in my last post it gets automatically masked. Just type it in full, without any spaces as our software masks it from public view when you submit your post - so only staff can see it.

Your VIN is a digit too short & should it not be VF7 at the start?

Ok so you have a RELAY III EXTENDED VAN H3 TYPE 16H 2.0 HDi 130 FAP (DW10FUD) Manual gearbox 6,

In this case you have an additive system, so my next question is when was the additive tank last checked? I appreciate a warning is supposed to flag up if the reservoir is deemed to be low (as it's not physically measured), but unless it has been checked and topped up already, at 115k miles it should be due.

Again if there is a risk of the DPF clogging, a warning should come up with a message.

To many digits this time :-D
Im guessing the C wasnt meant to be on the end?
Comes up as a mk3 high top Relay?
This has a PSA engine so is a 'wet' system DPF with Eolys fluid.
After the DPF was removed & cleaned did you tell the van it was a new DPF?
A decent diag tool can tell you when the vehicle re generates, but as for knowing it really depends on the car.
I drove a Transit custom from brand new for over 140k miles & was never once aware that it ever regenerated.
My C5 done about 60k miles in it never once knew it regened.
My 4007 ran so bad while it was re generating that passengers could feel it, it was like it was intermittently dropping a cylinder while it was happening. No issues now that I 'fixed' it.
I have a few friends with VW T6's & they can tell by the horrible smell when they regen is happening.

Yes it’s a L4H3 van 130 and 6 speed

I filled up the add blue only 2000 miles ago, it’s with a chap who knows his stuff and he has done a few of them, the dpf and injector is being removed next week for a clean so hopefully that will sort the issues

Thanks lots for your help and time

You asked how can you tell when it's regenerating. Someone posted that they had wired a small LED into the driver's door mirror housing across the heated element for the mirror. When the regeneration happens the ECU switches electrical items, such as the mirror heaters, on to load the engine. This only works if the door mirrors are heated though!
