I believe the only time this may not have occurred was during the reign of King Edward VIII, as he was Monarch for less than a year.

Re: Picture(s) of the day....
Although it's always referred to as 'Half Mast', the correct way to fly the flag is about two-thirds up the flag pole or one flag width below the finial. The tradition of flying half mast is supposed to be linked with making way for the 'invisible flag of death' at the top. It wouldn't be correct to fly the Royal Standard at half mast as there's always a living monarch.
So now you know. Or possibly - now you've been needlessly reminded.

Re: Picture(s) of the day....
In Kelso Town hall there was an exhibition of paintings by a family of local artists. One the specialities of Carol Binnie is commissioned architectural watercolours which caught my eye. In particular the painting of the Orocco Pier at South Queensferry, a bar/cafe with one of the finest views of the Forth Bridges. Look right for the iconic girders of the Rail Bridge and left for the towers of the original road bridge and new Forth Crossing beyond.
Thing is you could only capture a photo of the three bridges and the Orocco pier from the air, but I very much liked how artistic licence allowed both isolation of the Orocco Pier from surrounding attached buildings, and stacked the Forth bridges behind and above the building.
Regards Neil

That strikes me as an upside down shot Neil, I'm sure it's not but for the sake of it I tried inverting it and the truth is it works both ways for me !!
