What shall I do with the DIGIT.

Unread post by fastandfurryous »

Right. I've got myself a bit of an issue with this BX.
As I now have 9 vehicles, most of which have one problem or another, I must rationalise. Since I am now the rather proud owner of a CX TD, I fear the BX may have to move on to pastures new. Shame really, as I love it, but I can't have this many cars!
There are some pictures of it on here somewhere, look for the thread called "BX DIGIT now with pictures"
There's not a great deal wrong with it to be honest. It misfires a bit when cold, and the gear linkages are a tad sloppy, but it drives well, the spheres are all good, and it goes up and down as it should. Since buying the car, I have also bought a genuine "BX DIGIT" badge from france for it.
I don't really want to get rid of it, but if someone else is able to give it a better home than me, then please let me know.
David.

Can you remind me of the basic state of play with this car, David? (i.e. Tax, MOT etc.) The rest of the details are almost certainly searchable on the forum, but I'm about to finish an internet cafe session so can't do it right now.

The Digit.
It's not a diesel, otherwise I'd be hanging on to it for sure! It's a special edition, based on the 1985 MK1 BX GT. It has a 105HP 1905cc petrol engine on carburettors, and a BE1/5 gearbox (reverse next to 1st rather than below 5th).
The main difference between it and a standard GT is the addition of the Vacuum-Flourescent digital dash, and a few trim changes (like the ashtray saying "DIGIT" rather than "GT")
The car has no rent or ticket, but I doubt it would take very much to get a ticket on it. The bodywork isn't great: paintwork is poor in places, and rough-as-nuts on the bonnet. The interior is fairly good, and needs nothing more than a quick vac.
Mechanically, it's not bad at all. Pump clicks in every 30 secs or so at idle, brakes are uber-powerful, steering is smooth. Seems to idle on 3 cylinders when cold, but manages all 4 above 1000rpm or when warm. May just be a dead sparkplug.
To be honest, I don't really want to get rid of it, but I have completely run out of space, and my landlord is jumping up and down on my head.
If anyone is truly interested in it, I will take a stack of photos, and shove them on a web-page so that you can view them at your leisure. Transporting it is no problem at all, as I can shove it on a cheapo local rented trailer, and deliver anywhere.

I am in North Dorset, not far from Henstridge.
As to how much I want for it. Well. As much as I would love to be able to say "come and take it away for free" I can't justify doing that, so I would be looking to cover what I paid for it & what it owes me at the moment, which is about £50.
I know that probably seems rather cheeky, considering that I've just been given a CX TD, but that car was going to be scrapped if it wasn't saved, whereas this BX will simply continue to sit here if it doesn't go to someone else. Plus I can't really afford to give anything away at the moment.
I am also considering putting an MOT on it and offering it for sale with 12 months. If anyone here would be interested in it with 12 months ticket, then please let me know.
David.
PS. the reason for having half a 405 will become clear in the future. I will do a posting explaining all!

Something along these lines, which was the fate of my brown Visa Special when my mate got his angle grinder and MIG on it?
Image
Not sure why he painted it purple (better than the Fawn Beige - aka diarrhoea it was before), nor why there is parrot there [:o)]. He did own all 3 Visa GTis that were on the Isle of Wight at one stage though[:D]

Its interesting that the electronic dashboard wasn't pursued. besides the BX which naturally has rather a good one which combines the benefits of analogue and digital speedo whe had the vauxhall one which was pure digital, Jaguar tried something in the XJ40 for the minor instruements but I think dropped it and really since the end of the 80's I can't think of any until the C4.
Just think - a modern LCD (or whatever technology is chosen) would have no moving parts, sensors linked to a computer and could display analogue style information (bit like Flight Simulator). You could drag and drop the gauges etc when you got bored with the layout, change to pure digital if you like, delete those instruements you didn't like, change background colours without having to take it to bits, and would,'t even need to change the backlight bulbs!

I would be even more interested with 12months MOT on it. How much then? I don't think £50 is cheeky at all.
Andy, I would love it. My Xant is giving me a bit of a taste for Citroens now that I have had all the Pugs I want. Apart from a 504 or 406 coupe.

If I were to give it a major service, put 12 months ticket on it, and generally do the things it needs to make it into a nice(er) car, (Like re-bonding the rear pillar windows) then I'd probably be looking for something like £350 or so. To be honest, I need to get underneath the car and have a serious poke at the floor to make sure there's nothing lurking.
I'd also probably also need to re-spray the bonnet (or find a replacement) 'cause it really does make the car look appalingly bad. With that sorted it would look reasonably respectable.
Macaroni, where are you? are you near enough to be able to have a look at the car? Or would a whole load of pictures be better?
David.
