CV boot - megane

Unread post by steven0123 »

When accelerating with a laden car i am getting a horrible rubbing noise, I have noticed that the cv boot on the nearside has come loose and is spraying grease all over the inner wheel.. is there anything other than the CV boot (and grease) that needs replacing, or should i be ok just replacing the boot?
any help appreciated!

Doubt a split CV boot woul dcause a rubbing noise.
I would be looking at the back tyres to see if they have any unusual wear marks.

Check that the engine mounts haven't given way, or the gear box the chassie stabaliser mounting. Looks like a twisted piece of alloy with rubber ends on it. Not expensive to buy from renault about £10 plus VAT.

the boot hasn't split its popped off on the wheel side, the clip had snapped. i fastened it on again over the weekend and all the noise stopped until it popped off again.. assuming that the boot is worn and needs to be replaced..

Sounds as though the large end of the boot may have expaned a little and so making it baggy on the joint.

Or it could be one of those universal boots that is universally too short for any car.
Get the boot replaced ASAP, a leaking boot causes damage to the CV joint that may not be immediately apparent.
