Picasso spring failure

Just wondered whether anyone had suffered with a broken front suspension spring on this vehicle?

Heard is does happen and on Berlingos too. It sometimes takes out the tyre which could be nasty. Has it happened to you David?

It happened to a work colleague and it did puncture the tyre.

How common is this and any other models affected?
I've just had a colleague ring asking if it's a known fault on the C3 because his is currently sat on the bumpstops.

Hello, I have an X reg Picasso and the front off-side spring sheared through this morning and took the tyre with it. On inspection the near-side spring appears to be different to the one on the off-side. Do you know if this is usual? Any ideas on getting it repaired.

I think you will find there have been a number of broken springs reported on here over the years. Going too fast over speed humps has been blamed for causing the problem.
Funny how these things seem to come in clusters. I wonder if there is a serious problem here and if we should be thinking of compiling some data to see if there is a trend?
Anyone any ideas for an early warning? I would have thought they just snap but it may be they crack, shed paint, rust or do something first?

According to my collegue with the C3 his broke while the cars was sat on the drive and he was in bed.
His wife got in to move the car and it was scraping the ground.
Car was just short of 3 years old so he got it sorted on warranty.
He was living at a house at the end of a long farm track for a while but a French car shouldn't have any problem with that or going over speed bumps "too fast".

Had one go on a Nova once. Didn't do any damaged just this really lound BONG! when you went from lock to lock lol it broke to top coil off.

Unfortunately that happens to a lot of Berlingo/Xsara and Xsara Picasso. Make sure that BOTH springs are changed and ask the dealer if there's any kind of cost sharing. In some cases in Germany the repair costs are paid by Citroen even on a 5 year old car. There's obviously a quality problem at one of Citroën's suppliers.
