Infinity is a concept, just like the square root of a minus number!

Well in that case, space must have an end and not be infinite and what's after that..... Isn't pie an infinite number?

Pi may be an infinite number, but I would rather have an infinite number of pies (both to consume and also to share!).

The trouble with that James is that I like my pies with chips but I must always have more chips than pies so if I have an infinite number of pies I'll be unable to have enough chips!! :-D

I don't share food, my pie is my pie! Infinity is a number but it's never ending so can never be written down and completed.

“It is known that there are an infinite number of worlds, simply because there is an infinite amount of space for them to be in. However, not every one of them is inhabited. Therefore, there must be a finite number of inhabited worlds. Any finite number divided by infinity is as near to nothing as makes no odds, so the average population of all the planets in the Universe can be said to be zero. From this it follows that the population of the whole Universe is also zero, and that any people you may meet from time to time are merely the products of a deranged imagination.”

I once watched a program (I forget the name of it now) but it included a description of various "big numbers" used in various mathematical models.

It described a "Googalplex" thusly:

If you had a pen small enough to write a zero on each and every atom in the observable universe, then there wouldn't be enough to write out 1 Googalplex in full.

At this point I am happy just to consider Infinity as "bigger than that"

It's also interested to me that the square root of 16 isn't really 4.

It's actually ±4 (as either squared gives 16 and there's no way to determine from 16 what the starting figure was)
