Is Citroen C5 Aircross Hybrid 4 wheel drive?

I assumed that all hybrids have a motor on each axle and 4 wheel drive by virtue, but since looking at getting C5 Aircross I'm not sure?

No

Hybrid in this case refers to the drivetrain only. So Hybrid in that it can run short periods in electric mode or using the engine. It has nothing to do with 4WD.

Yeah I have a hybrid, they have two engines. Mine has an engine on each axle. Seems like a very obvious setup.

BTW the electric engine can run permanently (not just for short periods) when in 4wd or sports drive.

Hence I'm a bit surprised C5 hasn't bothered. I noticed the lack of 4wd controls in the cab so I did wonder

When I meant for short periods I would consider a range of 34 miles (WLTP test cycle) in electric mode to be a relatively short period, just to clarify for the new C5 Aircross. In reality, I know owners who are not getting that, more like mid to high 20s.

Yeap I appreciate, but that's electric ONLY. Mine only does about 5 miles on electric only
Hybrids can run both engines continuously in case of 4wd or increased power needs.
If you have two engines I just couldn't imagine why anyone wouldn't put an engine on each axle, seems almost remiss.
But for whatever reason they decided not to, so that's my curiosity cured. I don't use 4wd that much but it has got me out of a muddy fields a few times.

It's all to do with costs - these vehicles both use the same EMP2 platform, but only the Peugeot 3008 is available with 4WD and is a lot more expensive. So catering for different markets. No point in offering exactly the same vehicle as that would be competing with themselves.

They can accomplish quite a lot with the Grip Control system available on both vehicles. I find it very useful.

Yeap, they used to call it limited slip differential back in 1966 and it's been in use every since, but again, not a reason for not providing 4wd when you have two engines

It defies any logic whatsoever so Can we just say it's cheaper but we can only guess the reasons

I've given my reasons and it makes perfect sense to me. I'm not arguing for or against 4WD here, just stating the facts as they are for the 2 models and this has answered the original question I believe, in that the C5 Aircross does not have 4WD.
