Mr Humphreys had refused to attend a course or pay a fixed penalty notice, but said the fine was "appalling".
GoSafe said Mr Humphreys had been offered a place on a driver awareness course as an alternative to prosecution after it received footage of the incident. The cyclist recorded the close pass on a GoPro camera and reported the incident to roads policing teams

The scale of the charge was down to him not accepting the Fixed penalty notice.

Motorists must now leave a 1.5m (5ft) gap when overtaking cyclists, as well as slowing down. The gap must be 2m (6.5ft) when passing pedestrians or horse riders.

The possibility of such things happening, not giving cyclists the right amount of room when overtaking, on a Sunday morning drive through country roads round here is an "only a matter of time no matter how careful you are" probability, due to the volume of cycle traffic and the proliferation of go-pro and the like cameras and the paucity of safe wide-berth overtaking opportunities.

Pennine Cycleway NCN68 (&quiz) -On your virtual Bike

Had a nice chat today with a lady who was unloading a folding electric bike from the rear of her car, and we exchanged pleasantries and got chatting about her electric bike. She said she had done one or two longer routes, including the northern half of the Pennine Cycleway up from Cumbria to Berwick on her electric bike doing like we did staying overnight at a few hostelries (yes ours were accurate but virtual! and the beer was always surprisingly affordable with our virtual cash!)) and doing the Hartside pass on her bike.

Enthusiastic wasn't the word for it, she loved the bike.

I should have photographed it or at least remembered the name of the bike but didn't.

This country is paying car drivers €4,000 to switch to an electric bike

Scotland is still pretty generous in interest free loans for e-bikes.

Cornwall news.....

Health Staff In Cornwall get on their e-bikes to see patients

An e-bike with a cargo box is undergoing a trial with paramedics in Cornwall visiting patients requiring out-of-hours care, health bosses say.

Kernow Health CIC said the battery-powered cycle was being used in Newquay to see urgent care patients who required medical help at home.

Kernow Health, which provides the NHS 111 service, said it had already seen an improvement in the time taken to reach patients, as well as benefits to staff wellbeing.

Bosses also said there was currently no urgent care car in Newquay, so it was hoped the bike would mean quicker response than waiting for a car to travel from another town.

Time for a transmission overhaul...

Ooooh, shiny bits!

Chain is due as over 1500 miles. Front big ring is worn out (was last time I changed the chain), but is now obsolete, so difficult to find, so a new chainset which wasn't that much more. Rear derailleur is also worn out, the adjustment screws are seized, and it's not really the right size as I increased the size of the bottom sprocket.

Much better!

Had to go and buy a new chain splitter as mine has escaped from my saddle bag, and some heat was required to get the pedals to part with the cranks! Appears to change gear properly now
