Not sure what county you are in but whats your plan when it comes to MOT time & it fails emissions?
What about the engine management light that will constantly be on?

Please don't ask for advice here on disabling emissions equipment or systems as we won't provide it. I'm assuming this is your intention, as most people would just have the cat replaced as part of the front exhaust system from a fitter.

The under engine protection has to be removed along with the turbo air outlet hose, the particle filter and pressure pipes, crush bar and reaction link in order to get to the catalyst. The engine needs to be inclined towards the front and a wooden support inserted between the subframe and the drive train impactor. Then the catalyst heat shields and pre catalyst support and mountings need removing along with the upstream exhaust gas temperature sensor to be able to remove it.

I used the 2.0 HDi DW10BTED4 as an example based on your previous post "Everything is for the 2.0 HDi", so was a little confused. I don't have anything specific for the petrol version on this operation, but I would expect it to be a lot simpler.

The reason you've "not got anything specific" on the petrol model is because for some reason there's not. Everything's geared for diesel.

Morning,

Description based on 406 2.0 EW10J4, related to the EW10A in the 407.

Exhaust manifold is on rear if the engine, against the bulkhead.

Jack front of car up and support on axle stands.

406 undertray is pretty small and can remain in place, but think 407 is a big full length thing, so may need to remove.

On 406 there is reasonable access to manifold to catalyst connection from above but not sure you'll be able to get at it from above on 407. However from the engine bay you need to locate and disconnect the lambda sensor connections. 1 on my 406 but think is before and after sensors, so two plugs. 406 green connection, orange square tab slides out partially to release. Generally above gearbox as to where to find it. Might need to remove air filter housing on 407, on 406 it's further back so can get at it without.

Catalyst to mod section connection under the car, roughly gear stick position.

Both connections are usual PSA connectors "olive" and "cone" on the two ends and V-section band around the perimeter. Genuine exhaust clamp is single bolt (and 16mm head? Either 16 or 18mm - it's a PSA quirk)

Can buy special plyers or make do with a pair of screwdrivers through the two holes after removing the bolt.

After market clamps generally two piece with a pair of M8 (13mm head) bolts. No fiddling with screwdrivers on these.

Support the mid section (block of wood or another axle stand) as can overstress the flexible connection (immediately adjacent to manifold joint) if it hold up full system.

Disconnect manifold end first, then mid pipe connection second and the withdraw the catalyst.

Flex sections can fail and you can weld in new ones rather than scrap the expensive catalyst.
