Blowers not working - not the resistor!

Unread post by DS3HJ »

Hi, apologies if this sounds rather garbled but I have zero car knowledge, however this issue has got even my mechanic stumped.

My blowers have stopped working in 13’ plate DS3, 1.6 e-HDI. Initially it was bodged using Vaseline and conductor tape as the wires had melted in the little block behind my glove box so to improve connectivity the above was done. I couldn’t turn blowers up beyond 2, other wise the connector block got to hot and then I lost all blowers again - has been this way for a couple of years.

Well it’s finally given up and blowers not working again - I want it fixing properly this time but when I ring people for parts and try to explain what I mean they all say I can buy a new resistor, but not the little block where the wires go in.

So can anyone tell me what it is actually called, rather than the ‘little block’ so that I stand a better chance of working out what I actually need!!

Thank you in advance - from a boiling 🥵 DS3 owner

Hi, and :welc: to the Forum.

You might want to look on ebay for the resistor (assuming there is such a thing on your DS3), and check through the various listings. I had the same problem on my first C5, and some of the resistor units came with a replacement connector (with a few inched of wire to each connector) for that reason.

This ebay listing is NOT for your car (it is right for my first C5), but shows what I mean;

ex C5 2.0HDi VTR
ex C5 2.0HDi VTR
ex C5 2.2HDi VTX+

Yes, I am paranoid, but am I paranoid ENOUGH?

Thank you hell razor - I’ve had a quick look and it just seems to be the resistor on its own :( no connector block - I will try and get a picture of it tomorrow so hopefully it will help me to identify the part - i have been told that I may need to replace the whole wiring loom but that seems excessive for one connector block ‘thing’!

Is this the actual connector onto the resistor, or another one in the loom somewhere? No doubt DS will tell you you need a loom, but if you can find someone breaking one, then it should be possible to get it cut off and graft it onto your car. If it's the resistor connector, then it's probably shared with other PSA models.
