R134A and the refrigerant charge is 450 Grammes. The connectors are designed so that you can't connect the wrong type of refrigerant connections.

They do have a cabin / pollen filter, but in common with some other PSA vehicles it is not accessed from the inside of the vehicle.

I have put an illustrated guide up for you on how to remove and refit it, along with part numbers and location. It is in the Resources section for donating members:

The filter is only for that coming from outside , if the air is coing from inside the car , so the outside air +the filter is closed , and the intake is sucking air from the passengar feet...

But 97% of the time you'll want the outside air?
Barely ever use the recirculation function.
Even in recirc it usually draws air from inside the dash, not the floor.
I have various repair handbooks and wiring diagrams for C5 mk1, Xantia, XM, Berlingo and C3 mk1.
I have Lexia/Diagbox (Sweden) and Servicebox/sedre

On your HDi with Simple Air Conditioning, you should also have partial air recirculation as a setting, but yes, I agree you should not be driving with recycled air except for short periods like stuck in polluting traffic or in the winter until the engine warms up - carbon dioxide poisoning...
