'Air Flow sensor circuit'? Xsara Picasso 2.0HDI - back on the road...

Unread post by reanimation »

I was looking at what was available for a few weeks and found out friends of the family were potentially scrapping a 2005 2.0 HDI Picasso Desire, the owner has been too unwell to drive last year or two. MOT ran out in April.
Good things are:
It's one owner and done 82000 miles,
also FSH but I've not seen it materialise yet so no idea about recent services or cam belt changes.

I wasn't looking for a modern diesel due to potential problems but this will be costing little so a fair gamble I hope! I like the 90's era Citroen and hoping the 2.0 HDI is nearly as simple as my old XUD, though I'm told clutches are an issue.
last year it's just had a few tip runs so not good it's been stood around, and the year before less than 1000 miles.
Naturally the engine fault light has come on while I was getting it running and revving a little (plus a little smoke), not as much today on way to MOT station. Diagnostic says 'Air Flow sensor circuit'. So what do i need to do apart from a really good bunch of motorway runs?

Also It may need an oil change I don't know. Is there a preferred oil type for this? Just searched "The book recommends Total Quartz Diesel 7000 10W-40 or Total Quartz Diesel 9000 5W-40 or 5W-30 according to the local temperature." open to good alternatives.
What else for service at this stage?

Also I'll be looking for spares, maybe a set of alloys, or spare steels (and/or trims) and tyres, and a rear beige door or two too maybe, maybe a door card or 2.

Thanks for any advice. Last time I was here you were a great forum so good to be back. =D>
