With all the talk about Colditz I feel I can justify posting some photos of the real place.

An easy start seeing as right now my knowledge of County Tyrone is virtually zero so finding out is the game.

Vehicle registration area codes find some nice images.

and a grey Fergie, with Northern Ireland having a major connection with fergies as we found out on this thread.

Here's a false alarm...

"The mark of Zorro" one of those "swashbuckling" black and white films. You may well be familiar with the leading man, and no the name he used for his acting career wasn't made up, and indeed in his family goes back a very long way to his ancestors in Ireland. The false alarm bit the trail either starts or ends in Co Waterford, down South in the Island of Ireland, and not at our day in the spotlight county.

I feel it is inevitable though that the name used as a first name not a surname came originally from our County, but the trail goes cold on wiki at this point and this bloke...who's father also carried the same name as our Mark of Zorro Actor but leaves no further trace to be followed.

Two birds with one stone, a brief mention of Baronscourt rather a nice stately pile in the countryside of Tyrone, the "Seat" of the Duke of Abercorn 4.5 km southwest of Newtownstewart in County Tyrone, Northern Ireland. It is a Grade A-listed building. Far more interesting are the classic car and bike shows held in its grounds, and what is more interesting than a Morris Marina with a JI Tyrone Registration plate :?:

Time to rustle up some contributions for Tyrone....there is no threshold of interestingness...it needs a bit of quantity.
Knowing nothing about it, and never having been there is no bar to joining in.

Find a Pub, Find a Brewery, find a song or pick out a picture from the 8,538 on geograph which link to Tyrone Northern Ireland. Look at the wiki page on any of Tyrone towns on Mick's map, pick one out. Tell us something about Cookstown for example.

The Cookstown 100

With the demise of the Temple 100, the honour of being the oldest motorcycle road race on the island of Ireland passed to the Cookstown 100, which was first held as a 30-mile event on Thursday, June 15, 1922. This makes the Cookstown race four months older than the Ulster Grand Prix, which was first held on Saturday, October 14, 1922.

The Cookstown and District Motor Cycle Club was formed at a meeting held on the evening of Saturday, February 11, 1922, in the premises of Mr. James Fearon in Cookstown.
A report of the 1946 events in the popular weekly publication “The Motor Cycle” opened as follows . . . “To an English visitor, the smaller Irish road races are a never-failing source of wonder. If, for instance, you can imagine a small town some 25 miles from London barring all traffic from its streets once a year and holding a road race through them, starting in the wide Main Street itself, you will have some idea of the setting for the Cookstown 100. The inhabitants, having shut up their shops, ascend to the windows above and settle down to enjoy an afternoon’s real road racing.”

Centenary year this year 2022

The winner of the 2022 Tyrone Pub of the Year poll organised by the Belfast Live "MyLoves Tyrone’s Favourite Pub" have thanked the local community for their support in winning the award.

"The Public House" in Carrickmore came out on top in our poll of the county’s favourite watering holes.

Not a very imaginative name but it is what it says by its name "The Public House" is indeed a public house.
