The most Northerly Point of the British Isles, and a great name Muckle Flugga, and the Lighthouse Stevensons have been there and magically designed engineered and built one of their finest to adorn the scene.

County in the Spotlight, limited interest Brick section.

Shetland has plenty rock to build stuff with, and unsurprisingly no brickworks in Shetland. This firm claim to have built many notable buildings on Shetland, and supplied the DIY market with building supplies to boot.

Named Bricks are found in surprising places all over the world, this one found in Lerwick after making its way from Dunfermline.

...and finally The British Clayworker reported "fairly steady" supply of bricks to Shetland from Ayrshire.
15/08/1952 – The British Clayworker – Shetland Brick Imports – Fairly steady supplies of bricks are being imported into the Shetlands from the mainland, writes a correspondent. Two vessels, the s.s. Noire Field and the m.v. Annick brought bricks from Irvine (Ayrshire) last month and more deliveries are expected.

Shetland, of course the traditional music involves fiddle playing and Shetland's Aly Bain and Jenna Reid are two of the best

Nice lively session

To bring Shetland's day in the spotlight to a close a little video about Up Helly Aa a series of fire festivals which marks the end of the yule season. The largest of these is in Lerwick and takes place on the last Tuesday In January.

If there is more to add about Shetland will move this post, but we have had a decent coverage of the County so time to keep things fresh and move on to the next one.

New County for Saturday Nairnshire

Welcome to Nairnshire FCF finder-outers. Its small, not many settlements (the only one of any size is Nairn itself), so definitely a finding out challenge. Still gets today Sunday 19th June 2022, as its day in the FCF spotlight.

The boundaries we work to are here on this interactive map.

Our trip to Nairn kicked off the AA Box Challenge in 2016 to produce original photographs of all 19 AA Boxes at their original Locations in the United Kingdom. Only one remains in 2022 at Trinity in Jersey.

Now this may need a bit of precision in its location, it is right on the edge of historic county of Nairnshire boundary although described now as 746 Loch Allen, Dava, Highland: at junction of A940 and A939 (Grantown on Spey-Nairn).

PS well looks like it is in the light bluey/green of Morayshire rather than in the pink of Nairnshire on the definitive map we are using so my first post is a near miss :-D

Looks like the Nairnshire sign planters have gobbled up a few hundred yards of Morayshire territory compared to the wikishire map!

While staying at Nairn, our caravan site was right next to the beach and the pier. We drove round to Channory Point over the other side of the Moray Firth as it is undoubtedly the best place to see Dolphins as they come in on the rising tide, and are really very close to the shore. We were also able to watch a dolphin from the pier at Nairn a mere 100 yards away too.

So if you visit Nairn have a walk along the pier, and you may be lucky to spot a Moray Firth Dolphin.

Was just About to post my usual vehicle registration area code pic. Excellent find.

No postage stamps, but we are back to a bit of civilisation with Nairnshire...A county with a railway, so for the background pic Nairn Station. I pondered there may not be a great pool of vehicle registrations for little Nairnshire.
but Mick has come up with an AS right away. :-D

I have never been to Nairnshire, the closest being collecting a boat from Inverness for our Lock Ness cruise mentioned elsewhere, but I do hope to do so if petrol ever becomes affordable again!! One of my long term road trip plans is my adaptation of the NC500. I plan to go from Berwick-upon-Tweed to Bowness-on-Solway remaining as close to the coast as possible throughout. I don't know if it will happen as it is down below my South Coast Saunter in the running list but here's hoping!! :-D
