A golfer?
As I get older I think a lot about the hereafter - I go into a room and then wonder what I'm here after.

Yes I know what you mean, a bit Peter Alliss-ish but although it is likely he played the game that's not what his claim to fame is!!

I havent looked him up and to be honest I have no idea by looking at him who he is, but he is standing on a cricket field, must have some connection with Monmouthshire and Wales so while I would remember him with dark hair it could be a a more elderly Tony Lewis, who may be half of the Duckworth-Lewis "method", and he may have been born in Monmouthshire.mickthemaverick wrote: ↑17 Jun 2022, 12:06 Who is this and what is the connection with Monmouthshire?

One omission from the map is that Newport is firmly in the historic county of Monmouthshire
The interactive map on which the 92 counties are based is here...

... and my first picture for Monmouthshire is a bit of tubular steel from Newport Monmouthshire erected over the Tweed in Peebles and a perfect bridge between our previous County in the Spotlight and Todays County in the Spotlight.

Re: Today's County in the Spotlight:Part 2
With golf mentioned earlier, the Celtic Manor Resort near Newport hosted the Ryder Cup in 2010
Few happy faces here at the end of the contest
On another sporting front when I saw Tredegar within the boundaries on Monmouthshire I immediately thought of Ray Reardon the snooker player 6 times world champion without even looking it up.
His Wiki page reveals that I was quite right in my association

This is a gorgeous and photogenic Bridge, and maybe Gibbo can happily claim half of it for Gloucestershire, when Gloucetershire is randomly selected for its turn to feature with its own day in the spotlight.

Monmouthshire/Gloucestershire host some iconic bridges across the Severn, and before the bridges the ferries.
The original Severn Bridge

The Second Severn Crossing (Prince of Wales Bridge)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Second_Severn_Crossing
The Aust/Beachley Ferry
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aust_Ferry
There is also the Severn Tunnel for the rail connections.

Canny lot of words on them all there, but a few example images and the odd video may be easier to digest.
If you find any post them up.

For all the engineering and design achievement of the bridges and tunnels, I do like a bit of old film of the ferries and the cars.

It's not Tony Lewis, you have got the right sport and he was born down the hill from your camping barn! I refer you to the clue in my original post!NewcastleFalcon wrote: ↑17 Jun 2022, 18:59I havent looked him up and to be honest I have no idea by looking at him who he is, but he is standing on a cricket field, must have some connection with Monmouthshire and Wales so while I would remember him with dark hair it could be a a more elderly Tony Lewis, who may be half of the Duckworth-Lewis "method", and he may have been born in Monmouthshire.mickthemaverick wrote: ↑17 Jun 2022, 12:06 Who is this and what is the connection with Monmouthshire?
