These have been released at significantly above what people were expecting. Problem is the French government subsidises them, the UK doesn’t.

There's been nothing at all! They took a £250 reservation fee back in September 2021 and haven't said another word since! They've still not even confirmed UK pricing which leads me to think it's going to be a lot more expensive then initially suspected.

I was really enthusiastic about this back in 2021 and now life is moving on and my wife is looking to change her car, it's looking less and less likely that I'll be going for it. I'm holding tight until I know for sure though.

Nope, I've pulled out and requested my deposit be returned.

I always said my max was £6,500 give or take a couple of hundred quid. The entry spec one is a grand more than my give or take budget.

As much as I fancy it for the novelty factor, a used Renault Zoe for the same money is a much more sensible option.

We have a thread for that ...I think I started out a bit negative on it with the leasing arrangement on most of the Zoes availabe second-hand, but gibbo has no regrets with the one he bought at auction which appears in the later pages the thread.

The AMI is just another way of letting the French government subsidise/protect another industry from the normal function of a free market...........god awful thing that only exists due to the protectionist market it has been developed in. Outside a very few cities it is totally impractical and will have a negative effect on traffic flow whilst offering no "space" benefits over the car.vrs.cyclist

If it would just go up to 38 or 43 mph, it could be worth considering.

Into town, which I don't do much, is half 40 half 30 limits. Supermarket a mile each of 30 40 and derestricted. I give my mum a lift out for an evening 6.5 miles x4 through a mixture of 30 40 and 50. But there's a 22.5 mile trip I do, could cut through town instead of the 3 miles of motorway, the rest mainly on country roads, some with 40 limit, that would be a bit tedious at 28, so that would mostly still be with the other car.

I think shoving it up to a 56mph limit and a bigger battery is perfectly possible Renault did it with the Twizy in the UK, turns it into the next category up from a light quadricycle to a heavy quadricycle, and gives them an excuse to bump the price up.

For a more positive view, most journalist and youtubers who have given it a go, generally like it.

Try hubnut if you are familiar with his work, probably would expect him to be quite critical of it, but I do believe he enjoyed it

If it was going to be that much faster, maybe the brakes and suspension would need updating, maybe some extra cooling somewhere, and as you say it would start putting on more weight and cost

I'd hope that if the speed is limited by software, maybe some folks will find ways to reprogram it up a bit, but on the other hand such tinkering might be going out of fashion, or regulations

Up the speed more and it will fall over at most corners (in the hands of the type that will be driving it).....it would be a bigger legal fee generator than the Smart Car was when that launched. (See Vicky Butler.....who can drive btw)
