The last time I was in Newcastle, excluding the marauding during the September Stroll :-D, was when we went for a ferry cruise to Oslo, a route no longer operated I believe. We sailed at 16.00 on Friday and had an entertaining evening on the ferry. After a night in a hotel on Saturday we sailed at 17.30 Sunday for our return to Newcastle on Monday morning. The ferry terminal was very busy with a number of ferry movements going on. On the way home I bought a CD with a track which I have posted in the past but this is definitely the right place for another airing: :-D

From Mick and Bob's September Stroll,

To enjoy the best bits, as with the Lakes and most places I find you have to get out your car. Apart from the cameraman this is Hadrian's Wall Country on a busy day, if you get out of the car, and have a little walk.
NewcastleFalcon wrote: 15 Sep 2020, 00:09 Great meeting you Mick and Bob too. You are fortunate indeed to have such a good friend, and you are quite a double act :-D Take time to smell the flowers at Hadrian's wall....Steel Rigg Car Park is as good as any to get out and have a little walk and feel the wind in your hair!
This view here is a bit more of a hike

The shutter has been clicked a few times on this on Northumberland's day in the Spotlight.

Brand new fresh out of the camera

First up, always nice to be surprised with a bit of womble-ing down by the river

Rivers of Northumberland, Can you sum up a river in a single picture :?: is it worth a thousand words :?:

No 1. The river Allen,

Further upstream there is the Allendale Brewery, right by the river with its nectar like offering Pennine Pale

Liked that Mick, never heard it before. There definitely is a bit of sentimentality and "belonging" and "home" with the region. The song is very much in the vein of Lindisfarnes' "Run for Home", and this song "Coming home Newcastle" and in the music with no words from Mark Knopfler's "Local Hero".

Heading off for a bit of a trip out Camera in hand, so I would like Northumberlands Day-ish to stretch out a little, and kick off the next one Sunday morning.

The North East certainly has a character of its own, and one I've very much appreciated on all my trips up there. :-D Look forward to the camera produce and very happy to leave it to you to move it on when you are ready tomorrow. Happy snapping!! :-D

Clicked the shutter 40 times on our little trip.

I'll select 7 at random rather than bog the thread down with the whole lot :-D

First up
Northumberland Rivers No 2 The River Rede where it is joined by the smaller Otter Burn. The A68 pretty much follows the River Rede up to the Scottish Border at Carter Bar, passing the scenic Catcleugh Reservoir which dams the Upper Rede.
Waters Meet The River Rede and Otter Burn just along from Otterburn Mill

Also took a pic of a "Preston Grange Stamped Brick" at the Cornish Steam Boiler at the Mill. When East Lothian crops up for its day in the spotlight Preston Grange may get a mention.

Second up

The hand of randomness has allowed this one to make the cut.
We are in the wilds of Northumberland and the little car park by the Bridge at Bellingham had 3 Electric Cars in it. :-D
That one is as it says on the tin a Mercedes EQA 250.

The Church behind sits quite nicely, has a bell at the top, and is St Oswald's Roman Catholic Church Often has the Northumberland Flag flying but looks like the Union Jack was up for the Jubilee.
There's random for you a boring picture of an electric car!

Third up

If you have ever watched Clarkson's farm, I am sure Kaleb would be laughing his head off at the incompetent tractor tracks in the crop in the foreground, zoom in and far more regular pattern on the field on the hill behind. :-D

Fourth up

Wark playing someone else, at their pitch over the bridge from the village and right next to the North Tyne.

Bat was dominating ball when the two medium pacer's were on, and it didn't take much of a strike to send the ball to the boundary. Watched from the road for a few overs, any sort of lusty aerial blow would have easily reached the road but the batsmen weren't in slog it mode, and runs were coming easy.

On comes a bit of pace. A young man with a very long run up and a literal sprint up to the stumps. Fairly ruffled the previous calm of the batsman on strike 2 or 3 went flashing past into the keepers gloves with the batsman nowhere near getting a bat on to it, a yorker which probably just hit the bat rather than the other way round, and appeal with one thudding into the pads, and an edge to the keeper, caught and he was back in the pavillion.

Nice little cameo to amuse and enjoy.

Fifth up

Northumberland Rivers No 3

The North Tyne at Bellingham. The Upper reaches of the North Tyne were dammed to create Keilder Reservoir about 12 miles north of Bellingham. The North Tyne Meets the South Tyne just before Hexham to form the River Tyne.
The Bridge details are here http://www.bridgesonthetyne.co.uk/bellin.html A 4 arch Stone Bridge with Toll House completed in 1834.

Sixth up

Northumberland rivers number 4
The Wansbeck in the "wilds of Wannie"
Not much more than a trickle at this point, further upstream it emerges from Sweethope Loughs, and downstream gathers a few burns and the River Font and flows through Morpeth and On to Ashington and out to sea. Surprisingly the stretch of riverside by Ashington is a very good place to see Otters.

The pic is the Wannie as it flows through a very attractive grade 1 Listed Bridge near Wallington Hall
Built using a pleasing honey-coloured sandstone it has a main arch with two flood arches on either side. There are sculptured stone parapets and the single track roadway climbs at either end with a severe hump in the centre.
