206 Engine Immobilise fault after new key fob fitted !

Post by Fergal6816 »

Hi, I have viewed the online MAP for locations of members with PLANET software possibly near to my locale.I am a Newbie here and hoping for some help or ideas for possible solutions to my issue.
However, I cannot contact anyone on the MAP as I am a Newbie.
I saw a Peugeot Forums article on a re-boot of the BSI to re-set the engine immobiliser, and the ENGINE IMMOBILISER FAULT message has gone, but the car still will not start. It sounds as though the IMMOBILISER is still active.Notably, the car diagnostic display now shows the ubiquitous ECONOMY MODE fault, so I am back to square one.
I am reluctant to get rid of the car as I have got to know it well during my seven years ownership, I know it is an 04 Plate, but I am in my seventies and have no ambition to change it. If your erstwhile band of computer geeks have any ideas I would be delighted to hear from them.
Thanks

Hi welcome along! Whereabouts in N Lanarkshire?

The key needs a chip which is in the old case somewhere. If you hold the old key up against the ignition lock whilst starting it, this might be enough for the immobiliser to read the key and let it start. You might be able to transfer the chip to the new case - not sure exactly where it is, can you post a pic of the key? If the new key came with a blank chip, then it will need to be coded to the immobiliser - for this you need to key code card that should have come with the car originally, but may well have been lost in the intervening 18 years....!!??!! However if you got a new key because you were getting immobiliser fault, then it's more likely something else - probably the aerial around the ignition lock.

Richard, thank-you kindly for taking the trouble to reply. I am in Cumbernauld. I may have wrongly described my problem, as I have merely transferred the original key circuit board into a new plastic case, along with the original key.
The problems I refer to in my post, have happened since I did this minor job.
The original two putton fob has slowly deteriorated in the past three years, and any repairs to the plastic buttons that I made, worked really well up till this week !
I telephoned East Side Alternators in Kirkintilloch to-day and unfortunately, I would have to deliver the car to them. I thought that they might have a mobile service,as they are highly regarded locally.
Thank-you again for your reply.

Could you post a photograph of your new key next to the old key casing so we can see what has been transferred?

Sounds like this one has a seperate transponder chip which has been left in the old key housing (or fell out of it during the transfer). Have you tried starting the car with the old key?

Thank-for your prompt reply. I have merely transferred the original circuit board and the metal key to the new dual button plastic fob. My apologies for any confusion about that.
Thanks again

Paul, thank- for your reply. The buttons on the original fob had cracked and deteriorated to such an extent that I purchased a new plastic casing (fob).
I merely transferred the circuit board and metal key into the new plastic case, and there the problem started.
Thanks again

As everybody is homing in the ID chip possibly not being transferred over, that's why I asked for photos.

I am HAPPY to report that my NO START problem has just been solved !
I was completely unaware that INSIDE the back cover of the key fob, and away from the actual circuit board, there is an almost invisible small black rectangle shaped box, which to all appearances looks like a piece of the BLACK ABS moulding.
Unless you are aware of this, it can go unnoticed as it so well camouflaged !
Thank you to those members of frenchcarforum who have taken the time to reply to my request for help !
I am grateful to KEVIN from Just Answer.com for his description of this, and for passing this detail on via the JustAnswer.Com website - a legend indeed !

That's the ID chip.
