More ongoing X7 trouble

Post by Peter.N. »

I'm beginning to go off Citroens after running them since the '80s. I have an ongoing intermittent starting and running problem, I thought it was down to fuel starvation due to an air leak. I have now replaced the fuel lines to the pump, not an easy job, changed the filter (again) but it still persists.

Sometimes it wont start from cold unless I operate the primer pump and add a little easy start. Once started it may do a few hundred yards and then stop, operate the primer again and it starts. Once its running OK its good for the day. The next day I may get a repeat performance or it may start and drive fine all day. After I replaced the filter again it drove perfectly all day, next day wouldn't start again, eventually got it started by pumping and easy start but it was then down on one cylinder.

Convinced it was a faulty injector this morning I found my leak off test kit, started the engine and it run perfectly. :? :(  Can anyone help

1) Have you had it on Diagbox Peter and if so what if any are the fault codes?
2) What sort of starting / running problems? Can you be more specific? Like are you getting erratic idling, or a flat spot or hesitation etc?
3) Have you undertaken any work on the diesel injectors themselves?
4) Any other symptoms?

Hi Marc

I don't have a lexia at the moment but may do in the future. I have done no work on it except the fuel system, it either starts and runs fine or it doesn't start but can be persuaded to then runs fine all day, other days it starts instantly and then runs all day. The only other problem is that if its difficult to start it often stops in a few hundred yards, pump the primer for long enough and it starts OK again, it may repeat that but once started and running it drives perfectly.

The reason I asked is that if the injectors have been changed the injector actuators may need initiating 5-50 times if the car won't start.

So that aside, fault codes will be very helpful when you get the chance as without these, it could be a million things.
