If you are ever travelling to Bournemouth on the A338, just look up at the footbridge and you will see.

To be fair on the other side of the footbridge coming out of Bournemouth there is the message "Safe Journey" as well, and at night the signs do light up :-D .

For completeness we do have to add to that pre-1974 list due to Bournemouth, Portsmouth and the Isle of Wight getting special treatment.

Bournemouth Pre-74 Reg
EL LJ RU

Portsmouth Pre 74 reg
BK RV TP

Isle of Wight (1903-1974)
DL

A picture for every one would be mad, just a couple of nice examples.

A double bonus, as well as a lovely view of Ryde on the Isle of Wight in the summertime, the White Austin Cambridge proudly sports the registration JDL125E

Quaffale take us to Brewery of the Day on the Isle of Wight Yates. Not the wine lodge thing, but the Isle of White's premier Brewery.
Here's a map of their outlets

And following on Pub of the Day has also to be from an isle of wight selection.

A pub called the "Man in the Moon" in Newtown Isle of Wight caught my eye, largely because of the name, vaguely reminiscent of the famous Man on the Moon Princess Square opposite the Library in Newcastle in the 70's.

Its in a former United Reformed Church, and preserved much of the internal architecture, for a quirky venue, as well as doing the thing which it's owners do well, preserving a bit of documentation about the building and its history, and indeed why it is now called oddly the "Man in the Moon."

It's on Yate's List as serving three of its brews Golden, Holy Joe and Islander.

Ever wondered where old London Underground trains go in the twighlight of their years ? They head off to the Isle Of Wight to see out their days trundling up and down the Island Line :)
Up until last year the line was running old 1938 tube stock conveted to run out in the fresh air and away from The Smoke. They finally retired after 83 years of service, to be replaced with some slightly newer old London Underground trains

How a village hall in Meonstoke became widely known, even if not many people knew about it :)

Jack Hargreaves should be a name familiar to some - Gone Fishing, Old Country, Out Of town, and How all featured him. Well.....

"After the demise of Southern Television in 1981, Hargreaves teamed up with Lacewing Productions, a small company founded by David Knowles (ex-Southern Television). Lacewing, based in Winchester, were commissioned by Channel 4, via Limehouse Productions in London, to make a series similar to Out of Town. Setting up a studio in the village hall at Meonstoke, Hampshire, Jack worked with Steve Wade, Phil Wade and Steve Wagstaff (location cameraman), to sort, edit and rework a new version of Out Of Town called Old Country. Over two years Lacewing produced approximately sixty Old Country episodes, broadcast nationally on Channel 4."

And for those that don't mind a bit of reminiscing - 'Filming Jack Hargreaves in his shed'

I've given Jack a resurrection many times on here and still love his programmes. Just checked the link to the Daily Motion Vids of many episodes of Out Of Town and it still works. Plough through them and you'll get a good idea of country life and traditions in the New Forest.

Plenty Jack Hargreaves fans on here. The website Dailymotion has loads of the old programmes on it if you fancy a trip down memory lane

This little video captures my own memories of Christchurch on holiday. You could stand on that bridge and see loads of fish in the water, and if there was anyone fishing that stretch, and there usually was, I could quite happily watch the scene for ages.

For those that like a challenge and like to see something unusual, I'd recommend going to Cowes on the Isle Of Wight to try and catch a rare sighting of 'Floating Bridge Number 6' in action  Floating Bridge 6 is actually the chain ferry across the water at Cowes. It's been utterly bedevilled with problems and issues since its first launch five years ago. It appears it wasn't designed particularly well, meaning that an awful lot of cars scraped their front bumpers whilst trying to drive onto it. It's also had plenty of mechanical issues - cracked welds, sheared off joints, excessivley noisy mechanicals etc, etc, and to cap it all, it had a slight navigational issue recently whilst coming back into the harbour after its 5 yearly inspection - it 'drifted' in the wind and managed to take out some of the windows along its side on the harbour wall.
The council had to get the Govt. involved to draw up a report on its failings, and it's now the subject of litigation regarding how much compensation should be paid for its failings #-o
