Boxer Eu 4 - oil priming

Post by frosty125 »

Fitted a remanufactured engine and I'm trying to prime it. I put 6l of oil in and turned it over a few times with the starter for about 10-15s a time but oil pressure is still saying low. Any thoughts on how to prime it?

Not sure if i understand, have you actually had the engine running? Or are you just trying to get the oil light to go out when turning over?

When turning over with the starter. It won't start as the injectors are disconnected. Are cranking speeds not enough for the oil light to go out?

I wouldn't expect the oil light to go out at cranking speeds at all. It would normally not go out till a couple of seconds of the engine running at idle speed. On a new engine or one that's just had an oil change & new filter can take an extra few second on the first start up till the new filter fills up. I would think any more than 5 seconds though with a new filter.
