..................has an unusual golf course on the side of a hill to the South of town at ..............The club was founded on 7 November 1855. ........ Golf Club is rich with history and is probably the oldest nine-hole club in the world!
That could be Cupar in our County in the Spotlight Fife....like the Carlsberg qualification "probably".

When I did the enquiry, although Scotland does its best to exploit golf tourism, it probably hosts most of the top 10 oldest golf courses in the world 18 or 9 holes. There's us having a holiday near Elie and Earlsferry links and not realising 1, that they existed and 2, were in bronze medal position in the rank of the oldest golf courses in the entire world.

Indeed it is Cupar and the second set of dots was Hill of Tarvit, the actual location of the course. Well done :-D

In a new section for Todays County in the spotlight we have a forward-looking section

Fife Futures
Looking across the Firth of Forth and metaphorically seeing the Falkirk Wheel and the Kelpies, maybe Levenmouth feels a touch neglected. So a brilliant idea is hatched. A leisure pier with an iconic and huge art installation to bring the visitors in and stimulate the economic activity of the area.

Now at this point, not knowing much about it but having seen the Artist's impressions, I go to the Website to see what's happening right now, and find what I would classify as neglected update. Last update of the minutes of the action committee was 8th March 2020.

So I have no idea whatsoever whether the project has been scrapped, is in limbo, or they just don't bother letting anyone know the progress. Still here's a relevant bit of the minutes
At least they have got the 2 Whales!

Maybe Fife should plump for "Robinson Crusoe World" as well as the Levenmouth Wales...the plaque isn't that exciting!

I've never been very fond of choral music as generally I don't know the song (no great surprise there :-D ) and I can't understand the lyrics due to the elongated syllables and overtones. So I had a quick look for something more my style from Fife and came up with this:

I used to ride on two wheels, but now I need all four!

The Flying Scotsman in Fife

The previous day it passed through sunny Northumberland
NewcastleFalcon wrote: 24 Jun 2021, 22:52 Todays video button press, thought I would get some decent still snapshots of the Flying Scotsman as it flashed past Dam Dykes Level Crossing this afternoon. Yes not the best but a nice if brief encounter.

One of Fife's most famous and successful children has to be this man:

That'll be Andrew Carnegie, gave a nice Park to Dunfermline in 1903.

Flying Scotsman Friday 25th June 2021 in another bit of Fife.

Thornton Fife more of a close up view of engine and train with a bit of local narration. I got every word including "Cheerio to the loved yians" and the answer to the question "How big's the train mate, How many carriages on it?"

Just before the move on...

New contributors always welcome. Join in with the finder outers, and join in obviously if the County is your patch or you have memories or associations with it.

The moving hand of time has moved on and the dayish in the spotlight passes from Fife to the next one.

If You can join in please do.

______________Fife is done_________________

Next random selection 14
Next County Fermanagh

If you are like me that's going to be firmly in the finder-outer classification but its more of a challenge and I like that :-D Without looking it up other than being in Northern Ireland, I have no idea which part it is, or any towns in it.
I would guess South Northern Ireland but not on the Coast where I imagine Co Down is.

I fear that this may prove more difficult to find interesting things as the county appears to be very rural. In which case I propose to start with a rural activity, angling!! One nice venue to be found in Fermanagh is Corranny Lough:

One of the places marked on the earlier map was Tully, which is a townland in SE Fermanagh. It has a story to tell involving its castle but I think its best told by this video: :-D

The story of the incident is here

The information on Tully is amazingly brief here

Enniskillen Castle has the Museum of Fermanagh within its walls which has a lot of the things that we may find with diligent searching, but I'm having a lazy day so you can search for yourself or have a look at this site which covers a lot!! :-D

This beautiful looking marina is a feature in the village of Kesh which also has connections with comedian Frank Carson, England cricket captain Michael Vaughan and Arsenal's Martin Keown:
