engine swap

Post by taffyduck »

hi guys
hope you can help. Im fixing a berlingo for a friend. Berlingo 1.6hdi, 2009, chassis no:-VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff].
I got a 9HW replacement engine only to find upon removal the original engine is 9HO2 10JBAW.
Will this new engine work, so far the only differences I have found are different thermostat housing, and more worryingly
different crank sensor connection. Have swapped over thermostats but do I modify connector to fit new crank sensor easy or fit old
crank sensor and reluctor ring to new engine. Will it work.

thanks Dave

I'm not sure what your issue is.

The original engine is a 9HW - that is the engine code.
9H02 is the engine marking and is correct for the original engine.

10JBAW is the engine serial number, so that will be unique in any case.

So you if the replacement engine is different, you may have bought an incorrect version or with another marking meant for another application.

Thanks for the reply Mark
The original engine is 9HO2. I foolishly bought the 9HW replacement engine off the vin number, before getting the van.
The high pressure fuel pump and turbo seem the same. All connection are fine apart from the crank sensor. The thermostat difference
is a straight swap over. I am concerned as to whether the differing crank sensor connection means a different crank sensor part,
and whether this will cause issues with ecu when trying to start engine. Possible slight difference in timing. Will it need coding ?
should I put the old 9HO2 crank sensor and reluctor ring onto the new engine.
Thanks again Dave

Bear in mind that the '0' in the 9H02 is a zero and not the letter 'O' Dave.

There are different cam sensors on the different DV engines, but I would really need the VIN of the replacement engine to see what you have purchased if you have it.

It was from a reputable well known french car breaker so they should hold records, I've sent an email
to them requesting VIN and reg number from donor vehicle, will let you know soon as they get back.
In the mean time I'm replacing oil pic up and cleaning out sump. 66,000ml engine and there was already about 10mm
of sludge in sump.Have already removed turbo filter, was about 10% dark areas, and checked vac pump filter(clear).
thanks again Marc regards Dave
