The Cromarty Archive has a collection of images from Cromarty. Stumbled across it while looking if there was an HMS Cromarty, and discovered a number of images. It was a Minesweeper (Bangor Class) and succumbed to a mine in the Mediterranean in 1943.

It has a fair variety of images and stories added to in the comments, like this.
Story/Comments....Daily Mail Air Round Britain Air Race. The "Hawker" in the photo refers to Harry Hawker, the celebrated Australian pilot.

There was an HMS Cromarty but there also was a Sailing Vessel the Cromartyshire, an iron sailing vessel with three masts that was built in 1879 by Russell & Co Port Glasgow (yard No 19) for Thomas Law & Co, Glasgow. In 1898 it collided with the CGT liner SS La Bourgogne off Nova Scotia. La Bourgogne sank, resulting in the loss of 571 passengers and crew members while Cromartyshire suffered severe hull loss but was towed into Halifax Harbour by the Allan Line Royal Mail Steamer SS Grecian and managed to get repairs at Halifax, Nova Scotia.

It is and part of a notorious but almost forgotten story. Ship geek tells the tale which is part of the story of transatlantic travel by Steamship Liners in the early 1900's.

Ever heard of The Ullapool Klondykers.

Not gold but Mackerel, and a literal invasion of factory ships from Eastern Europe, but listening to the locals in this documentary, a boom time for Ullapool and business, and the crews living on the ships in loch Broom from many countries were welcomed with open arms.

Its probably too long didn't view, but tells a story of an important time for Ullapool. Wonder where the bounty went, probably the way of the herring bounty in years gone by.

Definitely driven through Flintshire, but may have just set wheels in it and not foot, although may have done a supermarket picnic thing somewhere near Connah's Quay :-D

Another know nothing about it, but that's what the thread is about, and I enjoy finding out, and getting the input from others to widen the view from my own little delves.

Will have to look up the flag info link that Mick posted up. The birds I take it are Choughs, and as they tend to be a bird of wild sea cliffs and a UK rarity at that, I wonder what association they have with Flintshire :?:

Need an early strike with a picture so whatever it is first one that comes up when I put Flintshire into the geograph browser is appearing here... Interesting that Mold turns up with the county hall of Flintshire

Definitely in the wikishire boundaries for Historic Flintshire https://wikishire.co.uk/wiki/Flintshire

The towns list for Flintshire extends beyond the map.

The biggest settlement in Flintshire is Connah's Quay

All these towns qualify for the historic county of Flintshire in for its day in the spotlight.
Towns
Flint, Bangor-on-Dee, Buckley, Connah's Quay,
Ewloe, Hawarden, Holywell, Mold,
Overton-on-Dee, Prestatyn (in historic Flintshire)
Queensferry, Rhuddlan
Rhyl (in historic Flintshire), Shotton

City
St Asaph (in historic Flintshire)

In the late nineties I had a girlfriend whose name was Dolores Keane, not the Irish folk singer of the same name, and we used to call her Dee. It brought a whole new meaning to the town of Bangor-on-Dee!! :-D

Bangor-on-Dee, standing on the village side of the bridge over the Dee. Picture is from November 2012 and the water level is high.

And, more or less, turning 90° the village church.
