Citroen Xantia starting problems

Post by August »

So my Xantia has developed difficulty starting (1.8 16v 1999).....

engine cranks but has trouble catching, when it does catch it stalls or has trouble running for few seconds, after pressing a little gas few times it clears up and runs normally.
I'm suspecting fuel filter because the car runs on LPG and god knows when the last time fuel filter was changed.

other possibilities could be fuel pump, fuel injectors, pressure regulator, map sensor, idle control valve, throttle position sensor, coolant temperature sensor, crank position sensor or even a bad ground or a dodgy connector.

Fuel pump is ferly new, map sensor is ferly new, spark plugs are ferly new, ignition coil is ferly new.

Maybe someone would suggest where to start on fixing my issue. Because all of that seems to be daunting. Sorry for a long post and Thank you in advance!

A failing or sticking idle control valve can cause the symptoms you describe, I would give it a clean first.
