The telephone kiosk in Hoylake that Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark used as their "office" in their early days. The kiosk was actually removed from service by BT and then had to be bought back and permission sought to place it back where it used to be.

As I get older I think a lot about the hereafter - I go into a room and then wonder what I'm here after.

Joy Division also had a song called "Atmosphere", and I always consider it one of life's great missed opportunities that Russ Abbot and Joy Division didn't cover each others songs. :rofl2:

Here's a photo of a place which I'm guessing the vast majority of UK FCFers have either visited or at least been past? :-D

How so Mick?
I immediately thought of the somewhat SF tower on the M6. Have visited that on my way from my cousin's in Heysham on the way to meet a forum member (not the FCF though) in Blackpool.
Knutsford doesn't invoke any memories though.

A pleasing crop of contributions, more like it when a few more get involved.

Leighton Buzzard got a mention in the Bedfordshire day with its Great Train Robbery association. Great it was not as this plaque reveals of the two men from Crewe doing their daily jobs on that day.

Carmarthenshire Today's County in the spotlight

Post by NewcastleFalcon »

I'll check these out but top of the head, as you go along the South of Wales I presume you have Glamorgan in the Cardiff-ey type area, bit further along but before you get to Pembrokeshire you pass through Carmarthenshire.

In the 1970's we saw Glamorgan V Kent at Swansea, but First Class Counties playing outside of their County is not unusual. Not entirely sure where the likes of Swansea/the Gower/Llanelli lie in the Wales Traditional Counties Boundaries.

I see I was partially right. Swansea and the Gower are next door well and truly in Glamorganshire.
Carmarthenshire's principal towns are:
Ammanford
Burry Port
Carmarthen (county town)
Kidwelly
Llanelli (largest town)
Llandeilo
Llandovery
Newcastle Emlyn
Pendine
St Clears
Whitland

We used to go on holiday to Pendine. This is where early land speed records were set. It is also where Top Gear (on several occasions) used to go hooning around on the sands, which are 7 miles long. One year we went in late October, and the weather was beautiful. When we got home we all had a bit of a suntan. Work insisted I must have gone abroad; there was no WAY I could have got a tan in Wales at that time of year!

Down at Pendine they are constructing a new Museum of Speed and associated facilities. The FCF had a little trivia delve into one of the Pendine Stories "all about Babs" and one of the former exhibits at the old museum, and presumably to be part of the new one.

Ever drunk Beer from a can? Madness...where did it start in the UK I wonder....read on...

Some may know that Llanelli was a pioneer of tinplating. The rugby posts at Llanelli's famous Stradey park rugby ground were topped with saucepans.
Two rival breweries in Llanelli Buckley's and Felinfoel began investigating canned beer in October 1935. Felinfoel, with family interests in the tinplate industry, on 3 December 1935, made headlines in the Llanelli and County Guardian under the triple heading: ‘Canned Beer Arrives’, ‘Epoch-Making Process at Felinfoel Brewery’, ‘New Hope for Tinplate Industry’.
Beer in Cans, that's never going to work said the naysayers in the 1930's, eventually it did, although it did go through some pretty dreadful incarnations before it was actually drinkable... :-D
