Criccieth is in County number 15 Mick, no wonder I couldnt find it in County number 54 :-D

Its different Mick, but I posted the original original about 10 mins ago black and white, poetic, slow, more dour, and very simple storyline which continued into episode 2 the next week.

Do prefer the original.

The pictures and animation are indeed updated but the script is pretty much true to Oliver Postgate's original writing!! I did find an 'in between' version, a colour cartoon but it only had the beginning so I went for the whole story!! :-D

Apart from a brief mention at the beginning of this county we have not acknowledged the part Portmeirion played in a significant TV production with Patrick McGoohan. This picture (click on the image) clearly illustrates the beauty of the place and its history is well worth reading up on here

Another pictorial delve into Merionethshire produced this image of the photogenic Barmouth Bridge. You can walk and cycle across it too and is on National Cycle Network Route 8.

It was a bit damper and a bit duller when we visited in 2016 :-D There will be much footage of it on youtube, and without doubt Michael Portillo will have covered it in one of his programmes.

...and having mentioned Michael Portillo here he is on a Merionethshire Journey (for true Merionethshire ignore the Porthmadog bits! ) kicking off with a bit about Blaenau Ffestiniog I didn't know about...use of the caverns in the slate quarries for storing national art treasures.

Merionethshire is the place for gold, and has supplied the Royal Family with wedding rings for many years.

The quarries / caverns at Manod that were used for the art treasure storage were also used as a film location for the TV drama "Edge Of Darkness". Craven and Jedburgh stumble upon the remains of 'the main Govt. bunker' where they crack open some wine and have a candlelit dinner and pause a while. The rooms they were in were actually some of the rooms built to store the art teasures.

One of the various versions of "Men of Harlech", which......... "is a song and military march which is traditionally said to describe events during the seven-year siege of Harlech Castle between 1461 and 1468, when the castle was held by the Lancastrians against the Yorkists as part of the Wars of the Roses."

I have had the DVD here for a couple of years, waiting to watch it again.

'Earl of Merioneth' at Blaenau Ffestiniog
'Earl of Merioneth' at Blaenau Ffestiniog
Since the passing of Prince Phillip Duke of Edinburgh the title of Earl of Merioneth is now held by Prince Charles, as well as this locomotive.
