Another renowned landmark in Bedfordshire is to be found just outside Barton-le-Clay. There are many pages discussing this feature on the web so on this occasion I will leave you to find your own information about it simply by entering 'Sharpenhoe Clappers' in your search engine! :-D

Probably my last contribution to our tour round Bedfordshire is a mention of the enormous hangers at Cardington just south of Bedford. These have had many uses over the years but primarily they are the hangars for the airship station as detailed in the link below: :-D

Details here

Cardington features in various shots during this video telling the story of the airship:

Or something a little more modern starting with a landing!!

Nice concluding post to move on Mick. CitroJim has posted about the Cardington Hangers and I dug out a now defunct link to their story. In trying to recover it I dropped on to a UK Airfields site, which I put Bedfordshire into the search box.

One of the links was to the Airman Pub nr Meppershall the town mentioned earlier in the thread.

If it has a history, corporate website design has obliterated it, but its entry on booking.com did lead to an interesting, but completely unrelated bit of information.

Yes the Bedfordshire Black Squirrel...and also north Hertfordshire too, proven to be genetically matching the Black Squirrel in the USA and therefore unlikely to be the exact mutation in the UK. So who gets the blame/credit for the escapees....Woburn of course. According to this piece becoming the dominant species in some areas.

Bedfordshire has had a decent airing under the spotlight on we go!
____________Bedfordshire Done!_____32 done 60 to go_____

and the next one please. There are 92 historic counties in England Scotland Wales and Northern Ireland, each is having a mere day-ish in the spotlight selected at random.

Our 32 numbers selected so far have been
3,5,7,8,9,11,12,13,15,16,22,24,28,34,44,48,51,52,59,61,65,66,68,69,70,72,78,79,81,84,86,89
So here is the next choice:

Random Number Selection is 54

New County is Merionethshire
Have a little think, 100 points for the first person (without looking anything up) to either name a single town or village in Merionethshire, or provide some fascinating fact about Merionethshire.

There is nothing from me TOH at the moment :-D

This statement couldn't be more appropriate
If you know nothing about it....well that's what "Today's County in the Spotlight" is about...be curious find out. :-D

Now that could be a very good shout Mick, but if I look it up to adjudicate I would rule myself out of a bit of a think and a never afraid to miss guess!

I'll try Barmouth.

and for a bit of sound as well as vision, a short rendition of Men of Harlech from the band of the Welsh Guards.

Now another rather tricky bit of investigation may be needed. This is a picture of a friend checking her lottery ticket but which castle can you see out the window? :-D

A bit late for my claim on the 100 points, but off the top of my head - surely The Merioneth and Llantisilly Railway Traction Company Limited should have its moment in the limelight :-D
Sadly no longer a C5 owner :(

You'll do well to stay the course on this one but I would recommend at least watching the last 4 minutes to see the arrival at a platform long enough for a channel tunnel train!! :-D
